IWD schools toolkit: definition of women/girls inclusive of men/boys.

Women's Equality Network Wales have produced a schools' toolkit to celebrate International Women's Day.

It opens with a set of Stonewall definitions (p4). Last on the list, under 'non-binary' and 'transgender' is the definition for woman/girl. One which might surprise you::

a female person. This includes transwomen and girls, as well as ciswomen and girls

It also provides fact-free definitions for 'cisgender', 'gender equality', 'gender identity'. There's one for 'intersectional' that includes 'class, gender and socio-economic status' but omits sex. Plus 'non-binary', 'privilege', 'sex' (assigned at birth obviously, and based on 'reproductive organs'), and 'transgender'.

For International Women's Day.

It's not letting me post the attachment but our further thoughts are here: twitter.com/MerchedCymru/status/1360218075661012997

(they have also missed out lesbians)

What's the definition of a male person?

VortexofBloggery · 12/02/2021 17:07

That's outrageous.

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 12/02/2021 17:08

What is the point of them as an organisation? Ffs

MerchedCymru · 12/02/2021 17:12

We are so far down the rabbit hole doublehalo that I imagine it could be more or less anything or anyone at any time. The Women's Equality Network are probably waiting for Stonewall guidance before they let us all know.

ah yes International womens day when we can look forward to the biggest and most powerful companies and organisations in the world along with national governments and the UN telling us that the definition of woman includes men

you know the joke that international womens day is also known as "when is it international mens day?" I think someone took that a bit literally and decided that IWD needed to include men too....

BuntingEllacott · 12/02/2021 17:24

Let's note that 'c**' women are an 'as well as' afterthought in the definition of 'female person', behind transgender women.

Know your place in the brave new world, support humans.

Exactly.

“As well as”?

@doublehalo

What's the definition of a male person?
Any answer on this OP?
MerchedCymru · 12/02/2021 18:21

Not from the Women's Equality Network skyliner.
We could have a competition with prizes for the best answers I suppose.

OP posts:
MerchedCymru · 12/02/2021 18:22

'best' as in most inclusive that is...

Definitely too far down the rabbit hole. When do we come out the other side?

What is the difference between a female and a male and how do they explain sexual reproduction if we don't have terms that actually mean male and female?

MerchedCymru · 12/02/2021 19:51

Perhaps never Doyoumind. Safe Schools Alliance have just pointed out that under Suggested reading for Secondary Schools the resources include:
We Should All Be Feminists: www.youtube.com
and
gal-dem.com/
The latter takes you straight to a soft porn video called 'f**k me daddy.

There are some serious safeguarding oversights happening here in addition to the ideological capture.

OP posts:
ChickenonaMug · 12/02/2021 20:12

That video is horrendous. Children in Wales are being encouraged to look at sites which are displaying a soft porn video demonstrating the sexual interaction between a ‘client’ and a women who is ‘providing a sexual performance’. How on earth have things got this bad?
The video is easily seen and accessible from the link in the toolkit for school children.

2fallsagain · 12/02/2021 21:49

Oh my goodness, that video. How the hell did that get anywhere near a schools pack??

The MAC theatre has been so ratioed that they've deleted their tweet about MB

MashNgravy · 13/02/2021 03:42

Don't call me cis, I'm a WOMAN. Boils my blood.

gardenbird48 · 13/02/2021 15:21

@BlackForestCake

The MAC theatre has been so ratioed that they've deleted their tweet about MB
and MB feels so badly attacked dislikes women pointing out the sexism and homphobia and mansplaining womanhood that MB has deactivated theys twitter account.

Disappointing that the MAC Theatre think that Irish women are soo rubbish that they would invite a woman hating non-Irish person to open IWD. Literally not one decent woman in Ireland worthy of being invited!!
