If you disagree you can write something in. I want to write WOMAN

For anything else they should aim for clear and concise. For this, tying up in linguistic knots.

I'd have to write "I don't identify as a gender as I don't know what that means and I didn't have a sex assigned at birth as I was already a biological female of the species before I was born".

I will have to write I don't have a gender. Think that question might be confusing for non English speakers.

Is it a compulsory question ?

It has no place being so.

Should be on a separate section for those who need to answer it.

You surely can't expect the rest of society to answer as if they have a gender identity when many won't .

I'd be OK with that if they use the word "believe" or "feel" and of course I assume this is in addition to the sex question.

Start with "Do you believe in gendered identity"

Then, if the answer is yes "is the gender you identify with the same as your sex as assigned at birth?"

If no, skip the second part as n/a.

That will be far more telling I think.

Mind you most people would just be confused as fuck

Have the sex question then show the jelly baby chart and you choose how masculine or feminine you feel today.

Maybe we could have pink and blue census forms so everyone is reminded to bloody well conform to stereotypes.

No it is not compulsory which is good

If its not compulsory and it ensures people answer the sex question correctly I gues its a good thing.

As the answers are used in service planning I think.its important they know how many trans.people are in the community.

But it does need to not he seen as a personal attack . I think that's going to be the tricky part..encouraging those filling it out to do so honestly and that the answers aren't there to upset them merely to ensure that they are counted.

I'm not sure how it'll improve answer to the sex question?
