Jonathan Pie is going to get in trouble

He's just posted a short video on Instagram titled woke utopia.
Discusses cancel culture and one of his examples is how discussing biological sex is now transphobic and warrants death threats on Twitter. I wonder how many he will get?

Is this a trick question? Has penis, therefore 0 rape/death threats.

PurpleHoodie · 09/02/2021 20:13

Yes. Zero.

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/02/2021 20:16

He's been openly ranting about the stupidity of left politics going woke alternative reality and behaving like a bunch of totalitarian nutjobs for well over a year. It's hard to argue with, he makes a lot of sense. A passionate labour voter with no one to vote for: I know the feeling.

PurpleHoodie · 09/02/2021 20:31

It's exactly that Michelle.

Old man Owen Jones face, shock and awe, and absolute meltdown on Twitter when the 'Northern Red wall fell' was a sight to behold.

He and others should listened to JP and others.

bourbonne · 09/02/2021 20:33

I've never seen his stuff but I'm aware that Jonathan Pie is a character.

What I don't know is whether he's a foolish character like Alan Partridge, or an "isn't the ordinary man silly... but also in a way sometimes right" spoof like Al Murray's Pub Landlord, or a character whose opinions we're supposed to get behind.

Anyone know?

I remember the magnificent rant he did about woke politics, Momentum and Corbyn, and the Conservative landslide at the last election - it was excoriating!
terfinginthevoid · 09/02/2021 20:41

I’ve been 100%behind his opinions in every one of his videos I’ve watched.

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2021 20:54

I love Jonathan Pie.

He'll not get in trouble for saying stuff; he's a he.

Stationfork · 09/02/2021 20:57

The comments on his Instagram post are overwhelmingly positive towards him so far

AnotherLass · 09/02/2021 21:08

That's an old video. It mostly just got a lot of likes.

BuntingEllacott · 09/02/2021 21:14

Yeah, it's a cracker from a few months ago. The anti comments mostly scolded him for being middle aged and white, and claimed that 'cancel culture' wasn't a thing because they can still hear him, and also cancelling people is the only weapon the most oppressed people have.

Beamur · 09/02/2021 21:27

He's very sharp and on the money.
Proper, intelligent satire.

ZenNudist · 09/02/2021 21:30

I saw that at the time. It was great . He's generally on point.

He's a character but he's not a stupid Alan partridge character. He's just a newsreader who rants before broadcasting. That's the joke.

Thank you Smile and I realise I could obviously have just watched the video to find out Blush I have a bit of a weird deep-seated aversion to watching videos if I don't know what to expect, and/or if it's someone ranting. Sounds worth a watch though.
HubertHerbert · 09/02/2021 21:52

I don't have instagram - is it still possible to watch?

Beamur · 09/02/2021 22:12

Easy to find his videos, also on YouTube and probably Twitter..

nauticant · 09/02/2021 22:19

You can find loads of videos on youtube HubertHerbert:

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 09/02/2021 23:47

Sorry I didn't realise it was an old post, it flashed as new on my Instagram feed.
I started following him for his sweary rants about Brexit and Cummings, it was the first time I had seen him address woke culture in his usual abrasive style.

OP posts:
ShimmyShimmyYa · 09/02/2021 23:54

isn't he written by andrew doyle?
what i love about the character is that he's garnered quite a fashionable/woke audience- what with his lampooning of the right- but is now not afraid to ridicule gender bollocks- and the poor little wokeling fans are a bit stunned
see also the odd gender comment from charlie brooker/phlomena cunk
we have the most searing wit on the GC side- i firmly believe it's what will ultimately put paid to the nonsense

ShimmyShimmyYa · 09/02/2021 23:55

philomena

BuntingEllacott · 10/02/2021 00:04

Well, witness the silly sods being terribly, terribly disappointed in John Cleese because they havnae clue about his body of satirical work. They just have a vague idea of Python being edgy and controversial and when he took aim at their oh so very conformist establishment bullshit they could not compute.

Lack of a sense of humour is the downfall of many an authoritarian arse. Long may comedy poke the pompous.

The third. The mock reporter is basically a framing device for rants.

isn't he written by andrew doyle?

No, he's written by the bloke that plays him but Doyle wrote for JP in the past. I've seen his contribution variously described between 'co-wrote some scripts' to 'co-created'.

We rewatched Life of Brian last week. The scene where Loretta (né Stan) talks over Judith was painfully realistic.
Violetparis · 10/02/2021 08:18

The Jonathan Pie character has always ripped into both the left and the right, and remainers and leavers. I've seen him live a few times and he was great, Andrew Doyle was his support act the first time I saw him.

QueenoftheAir · 10/02/2021 09:33

Didn't Benjamin Boyce (The Boyce of Reason) interview the comic Whose-name-I've-Forgotten menopause brain who writes for JOnathan Pie?

I don't always agree with everything Boyce says, or that this man said, but it's worth a watch - or a listen via the podcast.

(I find the podcasts better because I can listen while on my daily walk or doing housework).
