Don't know if any you watch BW's Youtube channel but some of the videos can be really good - very straightforward and honest. There was an excellent one on the JKR debacle. This new one is very good too - not sure if I'm allowed to link?

Yes, have to say I really appreciate Blair's input - along with Buck Angel they seem to be some of the only trans people who have some sense and acknowledge their actual biology.

They have both previously stated that the TRA's don't speak for them, and are horrified by the crazy antics happening. Also Rose of Dawn speaks sense.

Interestingly, they are all branded as transphobic by the TRA's...even though they are trans themselves Hmm

I'm fascinated that transpeople can be accused of transphobia.

It's amazing to me.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/02/2021 18:04

Internalised transphobia. Interestingly only seems to occur in trans people who understand science and reality.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/02/2021 18:05

Yes I'm sure you can link, OP.

I really like the way Blaire cares about child safeguarding. For example, I’ve seen a video where Blaire calls out people for - as she sees it - pushing a trans narrative on a gender non-conforming child. There are several other videos where she talks about other safeguarding concerns.

LetsHaveCake · 09/02/2021 18:53

I think there was a thing where she made a video on a trans woman sports person where Blaire claimed they competed in the woman's category but it turned out that actually, they hadn't, they'd only ever competed as a man. Wasn't a fan of that, so I imagine there may be some other fair criticisms of her (as well as unfair ones.)

Goldensyrupissticky · 09/02/2021 19:09

The video about the trans women weightlifter got removed by her once Blaire was told it was wrong and the weightlifter did not compete in the women’s category. At least she held her hands up and said she didn’t do her research. It shouldn’t of happened but she did apologise directly to the person named.

I find her videos interesting, they are light in terms of length but it is useful to see her POV. The latest video did make me pause when she mentioned the increase in awkwardness when people realise she is trans for fear of saying the wrong thing and an increase in negativity towards transition in general since the more vocal outspoken opinions for changing language etc.

SunsetBeetch · 09/02/2021 19:13

Blaire gets called "self hating" by TRAs because she acknowledges her biological sex. Being comfortable with yourself and not denying reality seems like the opposite of self hating to me, but what do I know?

Really? If I had a pound for every time I've seen someone accused of Internalized misogyny I'd have.......🤔 well several pounds at least.

I quite like Blaire and especially the videos on safe guarding and predators. There was that mistake regarding the trans sports person mentioned above, but it seemed like a genuine error and Blaire did apologise for it.

Early videos were quite anti-feminist (though more anti-libfem iirc) and pro gender differences which kind of put me off at first, but that seems to have toned down over time. I think Blaire seems like a nice person overall and I enjoy the videos.

I'm not surprised awkwardness has increased. Though I disagree with the fundamental concepts behind transitioning, I do pity those trans people who just want to quietly get on with it.

Impatiens · 09/02/2021 20:03

Plenty of agreement from other trans people in the comments, if only their voices weren't being drowned out.

"assimilation rather than deconstruction" to describe the goals of gay rights vs trans rights is very good (that's in the latest video).

Impatiens · 09/02/2021 21:38

Thought the video was very clear about the difference between the campaign for gay rights (which many GC people were a part of) and that of trans 'rights'. Trans activists are always trying to pretend it's exactly the same argument.

Blaire apologises if she has got a fact wrong.

She's excellent on safeguarding. Especially so considering she's only 27, has no children herself , has no experience of working in childcare and, without doing her down, a lot of Blaire's time will have been taken up with being Blaire.

It's amazing to me.

Did you know that the first attempted prosecution for transphobia was AGAINST Miranda Yardley, a transwoman who recognises biology (and I’m fairly sure uses male pronouns).

The accusations were made by a rather active twitterer who keeps a close eye on us and regularly screenshots and posts Mumsnet conversations on Twitter for general criticism. I think she works or used to work for mermaids.

gardenbird48 · 09/02/2021 23:31

I think it was thrown out by the judge btw

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/02/2021 23:41

Garden - yes, I can see that some transpeople might have internalised transphobia in the same way as some women can be sexist and misogynist.

But, to sue a trans woman for using their brain and refusing to recite what appears to be a script - well, yeah, amazing to me.
