Abigail Shrier substack on Planned Parenthood

Whistleblower explains how abortions are no longer the only treatments provided, this we know.

What I didn't know was the likely numbers and how very little medical training is necessary to work there.

Basically the US version of GIDS but worse. No doctors, only nurses and the clinic manager used to run a Wendy's.

This is one story, one clinic but with such low standards it doesn't bode well for the entire infrastructure of Planned Parenthood clinics and the sheer numbers of girls being 'treated'.

Just when I thought I'd read most of the horrifying accounts, along comes another.

Sad
ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 09/02/2021 09:04

Bloody hell, that was a terrifying read!

Winesalot · 09/02/2021 09:20

Shocking! What a shocking disregard for these teenager’s health. No mental health support is bad enough. No doctor?

Barracker · 09/02/2021 09:24

That's the most shocking read in a long time.

Healthy normal children damaged purposefully to make them into repeat cash generators.

OhHolyJesus · 09/02/2021 09:28

Why is this field of 'medicine' so loosely controlled or regulated? I thought GIDS was bad but we do have proper endocrinologists, we just don't have the proper assessment done before they get there, and don't get me wrong, that's really bad in itself and I'm thrilled to see this getting more coverage and general sunlight but whilst executive orders are being signed to make 'gender identity' more concrete in law there is no scrutiny of the actual process for 'transitioning'.

I think 2-4 mastectomies a day are being done in a hospital in Oregon on teenage girls.

What the fuck is happening?

It seems too bad to be true. Part of me thinks that this could be some sort of set-up to discredit Shrier for a "false attack on Planned Parenthood". I hope she's confident about her source.

But then again, there are lots of other things that have seemed too bad to be true that turned out to be.

And of course, even if it is true, it will be spun as an "attack on Planned Parenthood" so therefore "anti-abortion rights". Sigh.

It's money unfortunately. Whilst we still have a problem in other countries like the UK the US with their medical model is uniquely set up for creating profit driven pathologies. If we dig back through history there are lots of examples of similar scenarios that have played out with serious consequences.

Whilst this is anecdotal evidence of one person it's been known for some time that PP have invested heavily in gender services. That bit isn't new information.

Given how GIDS have operated in this country under a lot stricter regulations I wouldn't be shocked to find the account given here is mostly accurate.

OldCrone · 09/02/2021 09:55

There's a link to the PP website from the article. It reads like something written by a TRA - all affirmation and 'some children know they're trans from the age of 3'.

It's the US. All medicine is much more consumer led.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/02/2021 10:28

Would their health insurance cover the resulting problems? Atrophy of the reproductive system/ infertility/ weak bones etc?

If those are listed side effects that they effectively "consented " to will the insurance pay out?

Given it often goes hand in hand with other mental health issues As well as physical problems then what of these kids cant work when they get older? How will that affect getting health care when they cant afford insurance?

notyourhandmaid · 09/02/2021 11:56

This is awful.

nauticant · 09/02/2021 13:21

It's not just money. The medical practitioners involved, many of whom can earn large amounts by sticking to conventional practice, are seeing a whole new field opening up and see that those who get first mover advantage can make their name and become renowned.

Why be a run-of-the-mill surgeon when you can become a famous one as a pioneer in a new field that revolutionises everything?

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 09/02/2021 15:35

This is heart breaking. Planned parenthood, the ACLU, all these previously respected organisations captured, brainwashed and used to undermine the health and safety of women and children.
When the backlash comes the compensation claims may well put an end to the only available abortion services for women on low incomes in the USA. The people responsible should be named and shamed and made personally responsible for all financial repercussions.

You're right. The knock-on consequences will be horrific.

"the Planned Parenthood website for Central and Western New York states that: “Nationally, Planned Parenthood is the second largest provider of Gender Affirming Hormone Care.”

"Gender Affirming Hormones". It'd make a great cartoon.

FannyCann · 09/02/2021 16:42

But why??

With availability of abortion increasingly restricted across the USA, shouldn't Planned Parenthood be sticking to the script and working overtime to make sure contraception is widely available, the most possible pregnancies are planned and fighting to continue to provide abortion services.

Isn't that enough to keep them busy?

AfternoonToffee · 09/02/2021 18:20

I just felt a great sense of helplessness reading that. It just seems so overwhelming and bleak. Coupled with my current Facebook feed, where it is currently pro-trans city I just feel more and more despondent. It is women, mothers, cheering all this on and I don't understand why.

I do have a friend who is very pro-life, but whilst what she posts is distressing she is actually never overly rude and critical, yet those that post anything about trans are just rude and abusive.

rogdmum · 09/02/2021 20:06

A number of detransitioners have talked about this before so there’s more than one source. E.g. Helena (from Pique Resilience) has tweeted about her experience in the past and highlighted it again today:

Delphinium20 · 09/02/2021 20:14

Gender Affirmation is just the worst thing Planned Parenthood could have gotten into. A majority of women in America support reproductive choice, but a very strong opposition to Planned Parenthood has not gone away. Why they would wade into this very controversial treatment and risk reproductive health access for millions of girls and women is beyond my comprehension.

teezletangler · 09/02/2021 20:59

I distinctly remember either Abigail Shrier or Helen Joyce discussing this topic in a podcast and being at pains to point out that the Tavistock is actually one of the very best clinics! She was drawing a comparison that GIDS is bad but nothing compared to the horrors going on in the US.
