Police Commissioner Elections

There are going to be police commissioner elections in May. Eng and Wales - I assume.

I have not paid any attention with this before, however with the politicisation of the police I think it is important to take note and be involved.

How does it work - do the candidates have manifestos/canvass/hold hustings etc?

If I can contact my candidates - what’s the best question to ask them re women’s rights/policing to protect women?

I.e (quick off the top of my head)

Do you recognise woman =
Adult human female - in law and in language?

Will you commit to uphold ALL the protected characteristics equally - and not just one. How will this manifest?

What are they going to do about escalating crime against women - e.g the appalling rates of domestic violence, murder by current/ex partners, rape etc?

The Staniland question - Do you believe that adult male sexed people have the right to undress and shower in communal changing rooms alongside teenage girls? And will you prosecute mothers who object and want the person removed from the changing room as committing a transphobic - non- hate crime?

What is your thoughts on non- hate crime crime?

Are male offenders being recorded as female offenders in your area and if so do you think think this is acceptable to the public and victims.

Etc...

So many questions...so much going wrong

Thanks for this thread. I think it's important to be aware of these

Dinotail · 05/02/2021 10:24

Sorry, couldn't answer properly before.

I don't actually know how it works; I feel that this is an area everyone should be more aware of though.

Certain police forces do seem to have a bias. Eg Leeds.

Things like this do matter and have an impact.

Any GC campaigners interesting in standing for these positions? I am happy to contribute to the £5000 deposit and campaign costs. You need 100 local subscribers to sign the form and you may want to check who sees that list

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Ugh, I hated this electable police idea when it first came out; I hate it more now.

What is your thoughts on non- hate crime crime?

Sorry to focus on a typo, I just wanted to look up the correct terminology to make sure we can ask the right questions: I believe it's a "non-crime hate incident".

(What an Orwellian turn of phrase)

Many of the candidates are party nominees just as is the case for your local council. There will be hustings and no doubt the opportunity to question via social media.

highame · 05/02/2021 12:27

Going to keep my eye on this one that's for sure

Good spot OP, I've emailed to find out what hustings are being held around this and will pursue this locally.

Leaflets being posted have an email address but no candidate info so I'll follow up.
