The Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Bill 2020 (Victoria, Australia)

Quotes via Victorian Women’s Guild

“The Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Bill 2020 has passed - without amendments - and will become law in Victoria. Apparently a ‘gender identity’ is a thing that cannot be changed, and anyone coming into contact with one must affirm it. Or face up to 10 years in jail and maximum fines of $10,000.”

“ Based on Victorian law currently: gender identity is a deeply held essence and when it is expressed, it must be affirmed and not questioned.
However one can also change one's legally recorded sex as often as once a year because gender identity is fluid. But cannot be questioned.”

“Asexual and Aromantic specifically included by Attorney General as genders we are forbidden to change or convert. It is laughable. Except that we can now be penalised for our sanity.”

It makes any kind of discourse about this issue from a GC point of view impossible, it's horrifying.

Asexual aren't genders they're sexualities Confused

I mean none of the people doing these laws understand anything about anything do they.

Just googled and seems the bit that was emotionally argued was the sexuality piece (gay conversion).

As ever the bit about not suppressing anyone's gender was less focussed on. Obviously names clothes etc I mean do what you fancy. But the side effects could be very broad.
