This was a really refreshing way to tell the true story of Kim Wall, the woman horrifically killed in Denmark on a homemade submarine. The killer wanted notoriety but wasn't shown once, and was only named at the very end on the update. I wish more programmes were made so sensitively. Absolutely no insensitive scenes, no bodies shown. We were really impressed.

Thats good to know, I've avoided the press reports because the case was so awful.

I watched this the other week and was impressed for the same reasons.

The most disturbing aspect, after the murder obviously (but that is in no way shown, only spoken of) is when they talk about the porn that he watched. You could mute that part, it was really bad but obviously was truly what he did.

I read an article on this and I meant to watch it, so thanks for the reminder. The approach did sound an improvement on the usual format.

I'm watching this at the moment - 1 episode to go - and totally agree. Its so well done and so respectful to Kim Wall and her family. Apparently her parents were involved in the production.

persistentwoman · 04/02/2021 21:25

Watched this and was very impressed.

It was very good indeed, for all the reasons others have given.

The one thing I think was lacking was an analysis of the relevance of Kim Wall's sex. Much was made, rightly, of the fact that she was a journalist, murdered doing her job. This was found to be an aggravating factor in her murder.

But she was murdered because she was a woman. He would not have murdered a male journalist.

Kim sounds like an amazing young woman with an amazing future cut short in the most hideous of circumstances. Her parents sound so courageous. My heart goes out to them.

I avoided this too but will now try and watch on catch up. The porn link is so important and given the push to normalise porn in some materials which have been going into schools , incredibly concerning.

Just agreeing with everyone. It was also gripping. It really shows up the lazy prurient way these stories are usually told. Hopefully it will set a new standard.

ChattyLion · 05/02/2021 11:13

Thank you for this I had avoided watching because it was such a horrific case but if done properly it could be a very powerful documentary.

terryleather · 05/02/2021 11:29

Another in agreement.

I've been watching in "real" time so will see the final two episodes tonight.

It's been incredibly well done so far, gripping and informative regarding how the actual investigation was conducted but very respectful of Kim Wall too.

It has moved me almost to tears several times.

I’ve finished watching it and it’s very moving.
