Why the hell is it only the Daily Mail doing sensible reporting on this. I can't bring myself to publically share the Fail. Now if the independent wrote the same story...

I think it's following their poor review. I had seen that the management team were being rejigged but not sure where.

Related to previous discussion here (where many were rather cynical about whether the announcement would amount to any real change):

Does this include Polly Carmichael?

Does this include Polly Carmichael?

My reading was yes, she's out of the lead role. Relevant quotes from Hannah Barnes's Twitter thread, with my annotations:

a new Interim GIDS Management Board, chaired by the Divisional Director for Gender [of Tavistock - a certain Alisa Swarbrick, according to my searching ]

the current GIDS Executive team will be disbanded. Its members will have roles in workstreams and projects relevant to their skills and experience... The Service Director [of GIDS - ie Polly Carmichael] will have a place on the GIDS Interim Management Board.

I was just looking at Alisa Swarbrick's twitter and she looks great on paper - solid experience working with vulnerable children and she - shock horror! - calls mothers, mothers not birthing people or any such nonsense. She doesn't seem to be obviously an ideologue.

But, according to her LinkedIn, she's been Divisional Director for Gender at the Tavistock since 2019. So isn't she part of the current management already? Or does it mean she's moving from a role that's one step removed, to being more involved in day to day running, or something like that?

The Tavistock and Portman Trust is the parent organisation of GIDS - it covers a range of general mental health issues. When we talk about "the Tavistock" we usually mean "GIDS" but there's a lot more to it than that. (GIDS is relatively new.)

Swarbrick's page doesn't mention GIDS, so I'm assuming she was outside/above it, in the Tavistock itself. I wonder if this "Divisional Director of Gender" was a new role - doesn't seem like an obvious thing to have in a parent organisation unless you are starting to think a group needs some oversight. Was she brought in in 2019 because they were having concerns?

Maybe not - would be a bit too fast a change of heart? Dr Bell's report was in 2018, and Marcus Evans resigned from the Tavistock board in 2019. They were struggling to make themselves heard then.

It was covered here:
In judgments published on 20th January, inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Tavistock to be “inadequate” in leadership and responding to people’s needs; “requiring improvement” in safety and effectiveness; in only one category, caring, was rated “good”.
