Is it only men who get these ads on FWR?

When I read threads on FWR, I get adverts like these popping up.

Is it because I’m a guy? I’ve never clicked on such ads, or bought such products so I don’t know why I am getting this stuff?

Or does everyone see these?

This one is weird - the anonymised additional characters is taking objectification to a very surreal level...

I get ads for cars and clothing brands usually.

I get ads for holiday cruises aimed at gay men and gross Ann Summers adverts for underwear aimed at women. I must have somehow fucked with the algorithm

My bf got an advert with a scantily dressed female. He didn't know why or where it had come from. I suggested a dating agency or a porn site. He said no reason for either to contact him as he hadn't been on any sites like that. He's a bit straight laced, got a bit cross and deleted it. Shit happens.

I use Adblock, so no ads at all.

The default assumptions on an (e.g.) brand-new Facebook account are pretty ‘disappointing’ too.

I've got that on my phone, Woot. (Peers down frontage - yup, boobs present and correct... checks wobbly middle aged tummy - yup, CS scar present and correct.)

If you click on "report" on your OP and flag it to MNHQ, their tech team will do something about the ads being served up.

I had an ad like that the other day, not exactly the same, but same mirror outfits. No idea why, I've never bought underwear online!

I could so picture myself, plump middle aged woman in a sensible M&S one-piece, skin a positively glowing shade of milk-bottle white, sipping my dry martini on a sun lounger on the sun deck surrounded by all those buff young men.

I'm sure they would have loved my company.

I get ads for cycling and laptops.

I don’t cycle. I never browse cycling websites. Maybe I have broken the internet.

And if course, well I could ID as a gay man...

But of course. I would never intrude on their space! And of course the company would say no... And if by chance I did get on I suspect the other cruise goers would have a few things to say to me!

I saw those ads today but on a different website. Maybe they've just poured a tonne of cash into Google.

I’m getting an advert for the national lottery, I have never played the lotto and as far as I’m aware I have never googled it.

The adverts on here don’t seem to be targetted.

I have a male sounding name and I know what you mean about the default Facebook suggestions, it was a different world.

I have also had the all male gay cruise adds come up quite a lot. Given I am not male, gay, young, buff or interested in cruises it seemed a funny one to aim at me.
Currently I've got something advertising an immunity tonic. Looks like kool-aid.

Right now I've got one for a car and one for the RAC. I don't drive.

The targeting is very, very, random. I get lots of Max Mara (fine) and loads and loads for cheap , tacky, polyester clothes which are positively insulting (really ? You thought I'd be interested in that???)

At the moment I'm getting a lot for a new Neil Diamond album. I do quite like Neil Diamond- he wrote some fantastic songs and I didn't he make over a vast sum of money in a divorce settlement without quibbling.
