New Army Training tells Female Soldiers to accept naked men in their showers - Pentagon Training Material -

While the Pentagon’s review takes place behind closed doors and the inevitable culture-war volleys spill into the public square, it is critical to understand the real-life implications of the policy shift. I recently received a copy of the new “Tier Three Transgender Training” materials—a PowerPoint and accompanying lesson plan excerpted below, with full documents at these links—that the Army is now using in mandatory training for all soldiers. The active-duty officer who sent the materials completed the training with 40 other soldiers last week instead of conducting their morning physical training as usual.
Military As Social Engineering, Not National Defense

The force-wide presentation sheds quite a bit of light on the implications of the rule change on transgender service members. The policy prioritizes subjective feelings over combat-readiness and inverts military order by placing the needs of individuals over the well-being of their units.

The policy allows transgender soldiers to switch their “gender marker” in the Army’s personnel database without undergoing sex reassignment surgery or any other physical changes.

For a soldier to officially change gender requires only some paperwork. A military doctor or civilian medical professional must certify that the transgender person has achieved “stability in the preferred gender” and the soldier must change the gender designation on the soldier’s passport or birth certificate. From that point on, the transgender soldier is “expected to adhere to all military standards associated with their gender,” and “use the billeting, bathroom and shower facilities” of their new gender.

(The article has live links to the training material so you can download it)

And yes I know that yet again it is a right wing paper who is bothering to investigate and publish the implications of the White House trans inclusive policy, but seems in the States as it is here, if we waiting for liberal, caring sharing papers to investigate the threat to women's rights and safe spaces, even more than has already been done to threaten that would have happened.

Apparently rape is common in the Army. Its grim all round.

OhHolyJesus · 26/01/2021 22:29

Jesus OP this is very bad news.

I keep trying to think how it's all sunlight but the women and girls who are collateral damage and the sunlight is full strength and blinding is deeply depressing.

Is there anything that can be done?

Thelnebriati · 26/01/2021 22:48

I think that making women's barracks mixed sex is an insult to the women serving.
Conditions for women in the US military are appalling, survivors say there needs to be an outside agency investigating the way its handled. Apparently the way they process rape reports means the information is not handled confidentially.

Every single reference to this document on google seems to come from one interview on the Tucker Carlson show on FOX News.

The guidance on the Department of Defence website gives a very different impression: dod.defense.gov/Portals/1/features/2016/0616_policy/DoDTGHandbook_093016.pdf?ver=2016-09-30-160933-837

The links to the training material are in the article.

BUT although this came up in a news feed meant to show articles from the last 24 hours, in fact reading the link it is an article from 2017!!!

And the training material mentioned in the article and above are from 2016!

So not sure there is any point discussing this unless there is a way of finding out if anything from 2016 holds today.

Shall I get mumsnet to delete this?

Still not sure why the news feed gave this as a current article.

But a quick search has shown this one, but it may well be re-written under Biden.

This one is date 4 September 2020 www.palmcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/DoD-TG-Handbook-9-4-20.pdf

Biden signed an order giving male trans people the right to use women’s singl-sex facilities, compete in women’s sports etc, the moment he came to power. He is not a friend to women.

DodoPatrol · 27/01/2021 08:07

This, from JJ’s link, sounds fair and reasonable:
‘ Privacy
Maintaining dignity and respect for all is important. You will need to consider both your own privacy needs and the privacy needs of others. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining personal privacy in locker rooms, showers, and living quarters. One strategy might include adjusting personal hygiene hours.’

Is it changing so that the transgender person no longer is asked to consider the privacy needs of others?

The policies of the previous administration, despite being labeled a “trans military ban” fairly and reasonably addressed the reality faced by service-members who experience gender dysphoria or undergo medical intervention to resemble the opposite sex. The 2017/8 policies also reflected best practices to protect the women bravely serving our country in uniform, a population already at heightened risk for male violence including sexual assault. The revocation of these policies is a dangerous denial of the reality faced by our female military personnel.

The 2017/8 policies put in place by the previous administration did not, despite widespread claims to the contrary, ban trans-identifying military personnel from serving. The final policies were based on a 48-page memo by the Secretary of Defense which outlined the health and readiness concerns associated with various aspects of trans-identifying service members. The memo concluded that trans-identifying service members may continue to serve in the military so long as their mental and physical health remained stable enough to meet the standards applied to all other service members. Like all other military personnel, trans-identified military personnel were expected to serve with their “biological sex.” In short, the memo essentially stated that trans-identifying members of the military must meet the same standards as the rest of the population to be qualified to serve.

The 2018 memo also noted that allowing individuals to serve as the opposite sex could be “perceived as discriminatory” towards women and would “present a serious safety risk.” It also outlines numerous complaints filed by female service members who have been forced to share private quarters, locker rooms, and showers with men who identify as women.

DodoPatrol - the problem is that both my original link and JJ's are from 2016 document. Better to look at the current links being posted.

(Still dont know why a news feed meant to give the latest 24 hours news gave me a link from 2017!!)

But jj's link gives the impression that the women's showers, loos and sleeping accommodation can still be accessed by someone identifying as a woman, but that they should shut the door whilst shit, shower and shaving. Not that accommodation should be divided by sex as has been the case since women were allowed to serve.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/01/2021 02:13

A US general said that women in the army shouldn't shower with a towel around them as it was "othering" to MTF trans people. Yes it was in about 2016. It was a peaking moment for me.

FannyCann · 29/01/2021 06:11

One strategy might include adjusting personal hygiene hours.’

How does that work when a company are required to head off on manoeuvres at a particular time?
