We are not here to educate everyone on sisterhood.

But to exercise it.

Spero · 04/02/2021 00:43

Update. Thank you.

But to exercise it.

Indeed.

I'm glad Pink News is being lined up for action. The number of otherwise intelligent people who post links to their articles and assume that just because they have the word "news" in their title, the reporting must be accurate and impartial.

Well done everyone who contributed!

Spero · 04/02/2021 16:31

Helen Dale is a legend. So kind of her to speak up for me in this way.

EveEveander · 04/02/2021 16:34

I loved Sarah's appearance on "the mess we're in" I've not seen a woman be so composed and gracious whilst claiming to be fuming

Clotheshorsesarenthorses · 04/02/2021 16:42

Yes best of luck. You are correct about Scotland the hate crime bill is setting up some real concerns. For Women Scotland have been really good on this and we'll all keep fighting.

cascade31 · 04/02/2021 19:18

Hi @Spero I hope you managed to get all the offending tweets as it looks like one of them may have locked their account down.

Spero · 05/02/2021 15:38

Just been asked for comment by the Sunday Times. I have emailed this but I don't know what they will quote.

"I am utterly disgusted by the behaviour of people in positions of power and influence. They have told very serious and damaging lies about me in their efforts to cause harm to Joanna Cherry. This isn't just an attack on women for speaking out, its an attack on the democratic process and the rule of law.

Women have a right to speak about issues of sex and gender. It is not 'transphobic' to do so.

I am very pleased to have exceed my crowdfunder target in just two days and I am instructing solicitors. If there is no public retraction of the lies told about me, I want to go to court.

It's terrifying because if I lose, the legal costs are likely to be six figures. I can't crowd fund for that and I will lose my house and be bankrupt.

but what other choice to I have? Sit back and let this happen?

I have decided to fight and I am very, very grateful to all those who have supported me.

We are at a very dangerous cross roads in our society and we must chose a better path than this

Xanthangum · 05/02/2021 17:04

Said it before - @Spero is one of the bravest, finest fiercest women I have met. Well not met in real life, sadly. But I'm proud to share a forum with her. Everything crossed for the right result.

teawamutu · 05/02/2021 18:51

@Spero I wouldn't bet against your raising six figures, you know.

But hope you don't need to. Bloody brilliant quote and will watch out for the Sunday Times!

Thank you very much for your support and kind words. Even if this gets no where legally, I hope that we have all given them something to think about and also given those pushing for increased 'hate crime' laws some pause for thought about the kind of society they seem to be hell bent on creating.

i am being told I may not object to really harmful distortions and lies about what I say as it's 'fair comment' or 'just an opinion' BUT if women go on line and say sex is real, they risk being reported to the police and recorded as a hate incident.

And once the Scottish Hate Crime Bill becomes law - how many more women will we see arrested?

I think something very wrong is happening.

flippinada · 05/02/2021 21:19

Absolutely Spero. It is transparently wrong.

Even if your defamation case does not succeed it demonstrates a clear strength of feeling around this hugely important issue; it shows the level of support you have and that women will not just accept this "new" misogyny without a fight.

I'm in Scotland and am horrified by what's going on - disgusted at Nicola Sturgeon too. I have previously admired her but no more. If the ludicrous Hate Crime Bill passes into law then I am happy to stand up against it even at personal cost - I think it's so important.

Anyway I shall stop there before I go into a full on rant. More power to your elbow!

Thanks for the donation Miss Barbary but I am disappointed you think this is about personality or how we look. I hope before donating you read the overview on the crowdfunder?

It doesn't matter what you know about me, or whether or not I am pretty enough to merit some money - what matters is what is being done to women in the name of tolerance and diversity.

PatsArrow · 06/02/2021 10:27

As said before Spero, you'll have tremendous support as your initial crowd funder is just a taste.

Women are fucking angry.

DeaconBoo · 06/02/2021 10:46

I'm instinctively reluctant to put real personal details into these crowd funding sites to contribute... Am I being ridiculous? I've contributed to loads in the past but have an increasing distrust in data security.

PrawnPower · 06/02/2021 10:58

@MondayYogurt

Nevermind all the good MN does for people trapped in domestic abuse, lonely people, women struggling with breastfeeding and working and navigating a world determined to deny us a voice.

Mumsnet is going mental at the moment deleting thread after thread about anything gender identity related. They are clearly desperate to shake the transphobic label. I'm getting tired of interesting threads being taken down. Does anyone know of a better platform for such discussions?

AnotherLass · 06/02/2021 19:30

I am really frustrated with the deletions too.

There's Overit and Saidit but they are both based too much in keeping tight control for my liking - they delete anything which goes against quite a narrow ideological view.

I think that one of this board's virtues is that people do come on who have different opinions. The TRAs can only win through censorship, because none of their arguments hold up at all. So we don't need TRAs to be deleted - it is USEFUL when they put their arguments, because then everyone can answer them. We just need a forum where people can speak freely.

I'd really like if there was a forum which was just a space for people to discuss sex and gender issues without endless censorship. (although obviously really obnoxious stuff can be deleted)

I hope someone can recommend a place. Mumsnet has become a funny place now. It's very clearly frequented by a majority gender critical/gender skeptical userbase and yet decent discussions are deleted left right and centre. They're often left to run just long enough to let people have the beginnings of a good discussion, and then deleted by Mumsnet HQ so that they can claim they are not a transphobic platform. To me it's quite clear that Mumsnet is not a transphobic platform. It's simply a platform with a majority female userbase. And women are fed up with trans rights activism encroaching on their hard earned rights.

I'll high-tail it to any decent forum if someone can suggest one.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/snp-axes-mp-for-funding-legal-case-against-colleague-05j0f0qlx

The SNP strikes again.

I hope all the posters on here who voted for them are re- thinking your support. It's a pity you didn't think a long time ago about supporting a party which brooks no dissent.

MissBarbary · 07/02/2021 03:49

Although to be fair to the SNP controllers ( not a sentence I'm likely to repeat) I suppose contributing to the fund to sue another MP is probably unacceptable behaviour.

I see Hanvey was previously kicked out of the SNP for anti- semitism, which makes him an unfortunate supporter.
