www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation/

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports."

Biden just passed all the worst parts of the Equality Act by executive order (so without going through any legislation at all). It is limited in effect to agencies (I think) but those agencies include the Bureau of Prisons, Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Dept of Education, Dept of Labor etc

This will of course be unchallenged, even welcomed by the media. It will likely have a knock on effect around the world.

And I am so angry. So so angry. He was never the ‘least worst option’ he is the absolute worst option.

I very much doubt most people in the US will notice

I think the US will very much sit up and take notice when female prisoners are raped in their cells by transgender criminals, which is precisely what happened here in the UK. That will shine a light on the actual reality, and shift the focus to how dangerous this actually is for women and girls.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/seven-sex-attacks-in-womens-jails-by-transgender-convicts-cx9m8zqpg

When school girls are raped or sexually assaulted in their own locker rooms, I don't suppose their parents are going to be okay with that - and 'not notice'!

You seem to be banking on the stupidity of Americans to ram the agenda through, but it might be counter productive for the trans movement if some horrific crimes are committed against women in the name of 'progress'.
Quite apart from being something other countries follow, this might end up being the early warning system needed to show the world that women deserve to be safe, to have dignity and privacy, to compete fairly and to be safe from predators. I happen to think that this is just what needs to happen to really shine a light on this issue and move away from the fluff, noise and virtual signalling.

What if next week it is decided that people can choose their colour, you can be any colour you identify with, regardless of the tone of your actual skin. This then renders any race protections useless for the BAME community. Where will this kind of thinking end?

It ends with this guy as the head of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations I imagine.

@stumbledin but what can the average person do? I am genuinely worried about the backslide for women's rights, but I am very much tied into what I can do by my physical role as carer. I can't even get baby to stop waking 5 times a night and all my letter writing etc. Is focused on getting the medical care my child is being denied by the NHS. I don't say this to be difficult, but I am literally at a loss to how to get my voice heard. What can normal people do?

@Quaagars - So when Trump was issuing his legislation and orders, you had the same view. Just suck it up, as he was democratically elected?

I think we need a world class American star to get involved with this, or Amal Clooney - along those lines - someone that is respected and understands what we have to lose, along with some proper journalism, it needs to make into the mainstream - quietly slipping in this kind of legislation whilst everyone is busy battling covid was a smart move.

JK tried her best, not sure how keen others will be after the fallout of that. I remain hopeful though. Power in numbers.

To be afforded human rights, one must first be recognised as human, and to do this one must be allowed to distinguish oneself from every being which is not human. If I am forbidden from distinguishing myself from an animal, I am prevented from claiming my right as a person to be treated differently from an animal.

To be afforded female rights, one must first be recognised as female, and to do this one must be allowed to distinguish oneself from every person which is not female. If I am forbidden from distinguishing myself from a man, I am prevented from claiming my right as a woman to be treated differently from a man.

Superb post, as always, Barracker. I started to read it without notIcing your name but knew it was you because your clarity of thought and expression are absolutely peerless!

Thank you for articulating the issue so well. I think everybody should be able to grasp it now.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 21/01/2021 15:46

@Quaagars

They are no longer women's rights Quaagers. They are universal rights belonging to both men and women.

OK..... how is abortion a mens right?

Freddy McConnell would be most distressed at your blatant transphobia, Quaagers.
Viviennemary · 21/01/2021 15:49

I don't think anybody will be bothered about this at all. Only place I see it raised is on MN.

feelingquitehopeful · 21/01/2021 15:50

I stand by our American girl friends, and really hope they put some energy into this now. This is no time to be sitting back.

highame · 21/01/2021 15:50

In 2 years time there are more elections, given that both the Democrats and the Republicans seem to live in their own bubbles, there will be little awareness of what actual people think. The ballot box may show what's happening. jj you said there were no issues in NY but given that the media has closed down anything 'transphobic' (in my book facts) there is no certainty in your statement. We are in a very sad state of affairs.

LizzieSiddal · 21/01/2021 15:50

Agree and that is when the backlash will begin and of course these people will be accused of being transphobic. It will take years to bring girls and women's protections, back into law.

Ah, OK.

Stand down everyone. Apparently it's fine.

feelingquitehopeful · 21/01/2021 15:51

vivienne I think you could be wrong on that:

cinammonbuns · 21/01/2021 15:53

It is so refreshing to see sanity on this thread. As a black WOMEN I can assure you that trans issues are bottom of my list when I think about what threatens me or ‘oppresses’ me in society. I have to be conscious of my race every time I step into a room. Trans people going into women’s bathrooms is completely insignificant next to that. I do wonder why many people on MN do not understand that for some women their race is more limiting than their sex will ever be.

purpleboy · 21/01/2021 15:53

🤦🏽‍♀️🤣 Talk about ignorant

PurpleHoodie · 21/01/2021 15:55

New York has had laws ensuring trans inclusion in single sex spaces for a decade without incident.

What a load of ol' shoite.

PurpleHoodie · 21/01/2021 15:56

Ido wonder why many people on MN do not understand that for some women their race is more limiting than their sex will ever be.

And you know the ethnicities of the women posting here how exactly?

cinammonbuns · 21/01/2021 15:58

@PurpleHoodie I don’t think I need a scientific poll to determine that most of the women posting here are white considering the demographics of the U.K. Let’s not be obtuse.

feelingquitehopeful · 21/01/2021 15:59

cina so do you not feel doubly disadvantaged now after Biden's decision? Now your gender is no longer recognised, you are even more threatened and vulnerable than ever before no?
How does that make you feel?

Clearly the choice between two evils is no choice at all.

jj1968 · 21/01/2021 15:59

Suggesting a president interferes with a foreign power...

As if a US President would ever do that.

Not interfere with though, the US is well within it's rights to only have favourable trading terms with countries that share it's values and it's hardly their fault the UK's economy now absolutely depends on a good deal. They can pretty much write their own terms, which is why Boris stumbled so much when asked if he considered Biden woke. With the recent EHRC ruling on legal gender recognition as well the UK is going to look pretty isolated if it attempts to pursue policies hostile to trans inclusion.

cinammonbuns · 21/01/2021 16:01

@feelingquitehopeful my honest experience is that my race has been more limiting to my life than my sec has ever been. That is my experience. If I am honest it is hard for me to even relate to the issues brought up on these threads as they are so insignificant compared to the racism I have experienced.

So no I don’t really feel doubly disadvantaged.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/01/2021 16:01

In what ways are they not included?

They have the same rights as everyone else
