How upsetting is this?

Is that real? My own DM spent years seeking a mastectomy, it's a serious operation, can't imagine doing that.

SusannaSpider · 19/01/2021 11:57

Jesus. I guess it must be real if KB has posted it. Jesus though, that's horrifying.

NotBadConsidering · 19/01/2021 11:57

It reminds me of the scene in Fight Club when Tyler Durden is complaining about how the flight emergency cards all have pictures of people with calm faces. They then replace them with pictures of the realities of what’s happening when an aeroplane crashes.

Let’s wait and see if that patient is still smiling like that in a few years’ time.

Haworthia · 19/01/2021 12:02

Is this real?

It’s the Instagram account of Dr Miles Berry, based at the private Welbeck hospital in London.

This is appalling

yourhairiswinterfire · 19/01/2021 12:08

God that is grim.

''Only inaccuracy is the dripping blood.'' Har de fucking har, what are you like, lolz.

Hmm
ChateauMargaux · 19/01/2021 12:12

Will someone ask him why female nipples need to be obscured but male nipples are OK?

Aspiringmatriarch · 19/01/2021 12:13

God that is horrifying. Sad

Winesalot · 19/01/2021 12:16

Oh god is all I can get out right now. That picture looks to be drawn by a child not a teenager!!!

ThePankhurstConnection · 19/01/2021 12:19

How old is the person who has drawn that picture? The drawing is extremely childlike.

NecessaryScene1 · 19/01/2021 12:21

That picture looks to be drawn by a child not a teenager!!!

A understand (and also feel) the emotional response, but let's be honest. Some people just can't draw. Anything I attempted would come out worse and I'm 40-something.

But it is true that there is a sort of deliberate-seeming childishness in so much of the culture surrounding this. That seems unhealthy.

UppityPuppity · 19/01/2021 12:22

OMG - is the doc in the pic holding the breasts?

JFC.

Will someone ask him why female nipples need to be obscured but male nipples are OK?

Because maybe deep down, this ‘Dr’ who clearly has never heard of the hypocratic oath can distinguish between men and women -but why bother with that when there is money to be made.

DialSquare · 19/01/2021 12:24

It's just all so back to front isn't it. It's like an anorexic thanking a Doctor and drawing them a picture for agreeing to not feed them. Horrific.

I dont even know what to say.....that is horrifying and sad in equal measures :(

Icantreachthepretzels · 19/01/2021 12:27

To be fair I'm 35 and that's about my level of art competency (if anything I'm not that good) but what strikes me is 'drawing a picture to say thank you' is an incredibly juvenile thing to do. Teenagers don't draw pictures to say thank you (especially if they're not particularly good artists) ... not unless they have some kind of condition that might leave them considerably less mature than their peers.

StellaAndCrow · 19/01/2021 12:28

Yes DialSquare - like an anorexic drawing a picture of themselves as a skeleton and their doctor posting it as a thank you from a grateful patient.

NecessaryScene1 · 19/01/2021 12:29

an actual adult wouldn’t draw a picture to say thank you.

Good point that's so blatant I'd missed it.

PatchworkElmer · 19/01/2021 12:29

Genuinely makes me feel sick!

Soubriquet · 19/01/2021 12:30

This sort of surgery on children should be banned

In fact any surgery like this should be banned for under 18’s

It’s just wrong

Icanseegreenshoots · 19/01/2021 12:31

Oh my god, that is genuinely shocking and horrific.

I hope the artist, whatever the age is getting some help with what has clearly been a very traumatic experience for them Sad

Dogman · 19/01/2021 12:31

That picture. And the cognitive dissonance of the nipples. Why are they obscured at all? We are lead to understand that body parts do not have a sex and so a penis can be female. So why obscure some of the clearly male nipples at all? No matter the surrounding surely they must be male nipples?

RandomUsernameHere · 19/01/2021 12:34

That's so disturbing

Bubblebu · 19/01/2021 12:35

I have had a mastectomy of my right breast. It was almost a year ago but i am still not over the tramua (physical and emotional). This picture feels like it makes light of it.
