“Questions about a person’s biology “should not be asked” according to draft guidelines from Scotland’s chief statistician, in a paper that has fuelled concern that sex is being increasingly erased from official figures.

New guidance on data collection encourages public bodies to pose questions “on the basis of gender identity rather than sex”

K, I'm there now. I'm done with co operating any further with this bullshit. I shall be randomly identifying as whatever the fuck I feel like at the time whenever I fill in a form that doesn't give the option of sex.

Not paying taxes for vast amounts to be wasted collecting fictional data that therefore has no purposeful use. Nor am I staying nicely in a box and playing by the rules so that others don't have to.

littlbrowndog · 13/01/2021 09:42

We are all just the same then

No point in collecting any data at all

What use is it ?

No planning needed. 🤪

Vermeil · 13/01/2021 09:46

It amazes me that those who propose such moves cannot see the obvious problems it will cause down the line, or more worryingly that they can see, they just don’t care.

OldCrone · 13/01/2021 09:57

An accompanying Scottish government summary said that “in most cases data should be collected on the basis of gender identity rather than sex”.

Is there a link anywhere to the Scottish government's definition of gender identity? So that people who are unfamiliar with the term will know whether they have one and what it is.

Winesalot · 13/01/2021 10:02

I claim the identity a Jedi. I shall add it to any data collected on me. Now, how do public services cater for my needs? No studies have done on my gender so, who is to deny me the immortality treatment I need if I demand that I need them to maintain my identity. Including laser hair removal, please. I am getting a Jedi support group sorted. Any other Jedi gender people out there? We need to be officially recognized.

MichelleofzeResistance · 13/01/2021 10:07

Reincarnated angel here.

What forecast services might I need in my community over the next decade to allow financial planning on the part of my local authority?

How will my identity likely impact on the number of needed preschool places? Health visitors? School places? Prostate cancer screening? Maternity beds?

Are there any grown ups left anywhere?

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/01/2021 10:08

What is the purpose of collecting data on gender identity?

They argue that sex is irrelevant, I disagree but leaving that aside, if sex is irrelevant what makes gender identity relevant?

Will they also ask for

Sun sign, Moon sign and Rising sign

MBTI type

Aesthetic (dark academia, light academia, cottage core etc)

Hogwarts House (or maybe this last has fallen out of fashion?)

The above are all as relevant as gender identity surely?

Kit19 · 13/01/2021 10:10

I dont whether to laugh or cry that people who are in charge of running a country would take this ludicrous advice on board

E.g. How will NHS Scotland plan for

  • the likely number of number of pregnancies and therefore how much money to invest in maternity service
  • likely number of prostate cancer patients and how to allocate resource
  • likely number of cervical and uterine cancers and other illnesses and how to allocate spending

I'm utterly baffled as to how someone as intelligent enough to hold the position this person does can not see the consequences of not recording biological sex

Whatwouldscullydo · 13/01/2021 10:13

This stuff really needs to be seen as along the same lines as self harm /self destruction etc

Like it it or not trans people still have a biological sex thaT sex will result in the same medical/social/mental etc services as everyone else.

If statistics are inaccurate services cant be tailored appropriately and they will hurt and affect trans people just as much as it hurts everyone else.

ArabellaScott · 13/01/2021 10:25

I think in all seriousness if enough people start to identify as non-binary, which as far as I can see is utterly meaningless, it might illustrate clearly the problems with this nonsense ideologoy.

ArabellaScott · 13/01/2021 10:26

There should be fewer 'o's in that last word.

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/01/2021 10:44

I think that the only answer I could tick in good conscience would be “prefer not to say” if that option is available and I can’t skip the question.

I really object to being forced to choose a gender identity when I don’t believe in the concept at all. Picking non binary would feel too much like showing support for gender ideology.

I mentioned on another thread that the online consent form for the school covid test required me to declare gender for my 12 year old. A choice of 3 options female, male or non-binary. The imposition of gender ideology is just incredible. This has to be the most powerful, well funded and supported-by-the-powers-that-be oppressed tiny minority ever.

I wonder if it bears any resemblance to when Christianity replaced the Old Gods and Goddesses in the Roman Empire.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/01/2021 10:58

They need to have the option "none"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/01/2021 11:00

An accompanying Scottish government summary said that “in most cases data should be collected on the basis of gender identity rather than sex”.

How does that fulfil Public Sector Equality Duty, as per the EA 2010? How can they report accurately on the protected characteristics of sex, sexual orientation and gender reassignment?

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 13/01/2021 11:04

This is horrifying. It’s like someone read the book ‘Invisible Women’ and thought, nah I’ll show you how to really make women invisible!

SisterWendyBuckett · 13/01/2021 11:05

Virtue signalling idiocy. Although of course their get out of jail free card is the sneaky phrase 'in most cases'.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 13/01/2021 11:06

If there's no biological sex, then trans everything disappears too. You can't change something that doesn't exist in the first place.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 13/01/2021 11:10

I quite like it with the extra 'o's. Reading it aloud is fun.

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/01/2021 11:15

Yes they definitely do.

Yes. Make no mistake, there are plenty of politicians who are fully aware of the implications. Some of the responses to the Yaniv case in 2019 were very telling.

There is an email address for the Chief Statistician on the Scotgov site. I might get in touch and ask him about this.
ArabellaScott · 13/01/2021 12:17

I suppose in some cases sex really is unimportant?

I'd like to see a breakdown of what purposes stats are collected for, it would be quite useful to see which cases are going to have an impact on Equalities and discrimination etc.

Flapjak · 13/01/2021 12:32

Organisational capture is strong. Its prolific everywhere that we should include gender identity. No one wants to question it, especially if organisations like the NHS do this, after all where is biological sex more important than when you are treating a health condition/emergency or administering medication or carrying out an xray? It should be sex male or female and then an option to note if your identity differs to your sex, that is inclusive!
