Please report this

Scorned woman is jailed for five years for framing her ex-boyfriend
mol.im/a/9137815

In the body of the article:
"Gray has three previous convictions of sexual assault in 2005 when she was living as a man. She transitioned into a woman a year later."

Absolutely sickening.

Male, not make

Both parties sound like delightful individuals.
I’d be interested to know if the mitigation worked. I hope not.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 12/01/2021 13:12

Gray has three previous convictions of sexual assault in 2005 when she was living as a man. She transitioned into a woman a year later.

Amber Hobson, mitigating, said Gray would struggle in prison as a transgender woman.

This wording bothers me. A transgender woman is a women who is transgender (ie a transman). I guess it is the consequence of recasting a compound noun (transwoman) into something that is intended to be read as an adjective + noun (trans woman).

"Living as a man" also implies a woman who is transgender, in my opinion.

ScoldsBridle · 12/01/2021 16:05

What’s going on. None of the comments have referenced the fact that this is a trans woman? Have the Daily Mail deleted any that do? The comments I’ve read are frothing about the fact that a woman got a proper custodial sentence ‘for a change’ and that ‘she’s a real looker’ and an ‘evil bitch’.I can’t believe that no one would have commented on Gray’s transgender status - can only deduce no one actually read beyond the headline or that DM has deleted and just left the woman-hating ones (because that’s OK)

But this is a clear case where it is outrageous that this person is going down as a female crime statistic and may be housed in a woman’s prison - it would not be transphobic to comment upon that surely?

Or am I missing something? (there’s approx 120 comments when I’m reading the article)

Flippy87 · 12/01/2021 16:11

I am so confused by this article. THIS is why we need historical records to be based on biological sex.

Babdoc · 13/01/2021 10:24

Is there any legal pathway for women as a sex to bring a class action for libel, as these crimes by men are being falsely attributed to us, and the resulting distorted crime statistics make us appear to be violent offenders at rates that bear no relation to the truth?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/01/2021 10:38

I saw this article yesterday. I didn't read it but I knew this person wasn't a biological woman! The face and the footy shirt gave it away...

I’d be up for that if it was!

Bloody bring it on
Doyoumind · 13/01/2021 10:55

The comments are full of misogyny from people who haven't bothered to read to the bottom because they think it is a woman. People believe what they read and what they are reading here is a lie.

We just know that when the stats for crimes committed by women rise exponentially, the powers that be will all play dumb and suggest there needs to be some research into why women have become more violent. 🙄 No one will address the elephant in the room, it'll be blamed on TV, diet, etc.
SisterWendyBuckett · 13/01/2021 11:09

Well to be honest, if I go on a diet I do tend to feel quite violent

gardenbird48 · 13/01/2021 11:22

I wonder how people would react if people started identifying as other different groups to skew the crime figures of that group?

What criminals identified as trans-age (children) to try and reduce their sentence? If they are told they can’t do that, why not?

If I ever get in trouble with the police I will identify as a 6 year old as I will be under the age of criminal responsibility. Bosh

Two points.
1 The DM heavily audit what posts go on their comments page.
2 From my experience most people that post only read half the report before they bang out a reply in a rage
As pointed out, the fact that Gray is trans could well have been deliberately buried over half way into the article.

growinggreyer · 13/01/2021 16:37

This case has been reported on in my local paper. I feel mean for being suspicious, but this is where we are. No mention of trans status in the article that I can spot.

Worse than that, it will taken as evidence that there's no need to protect women and girls from male violence because women are violent too.

This would probably have had to be reported as a woman's crime by UK media.

highame · 15/01/2021 08:45

Worth complaining to IPSO. Believe FPFW are doing this but wouldn't hurt to mount a barrage of e-mails

I doubt if we'd succeed, but I would put money into a crowdfunder to look into the possibilities and at least have a try.

I'd like this to get into the news, because as with the whole trans issue, most people haven't heard of what's going on, even if they've read the odd news story here and there.
