Just seen this in the Times:

just seen it too - omg - the sunlight is shining brightly. I've got such mixed feelings about this because I'm so happy that this is being brought into such sharp relief and it feels like huge leaps are being made in bringing this to the attention of the public but at the same time I'm so sad for the girls who's bodies are being ruined. So sad.

Binglebong · 09/01/2021 20:04

An excellent article

gardenbird48 · 09/01/2021 20:06

I think it is the fact that the Sunday Times has now bothered to go to court to obtain permission to publish the full expert opinions relating to Keira's case that has got to me.

Gillberg's evidence makes for damning reading.

They may be onto something.....

Melroses · 09/01/2021 20:14

Will we get to see what goes in the bundle for the appeal against this, if they ever hand it in?

Awning10 · 09/01/2021 20:41

Thank you for sharing.

Manderleyagain · 09/01/2021 20:44

That's quite a read, especially the Swedish professor's evidence. He is presiding over some research into this which is yet to be published.

Its amazing that they are appealing this.

Dimpsey · 09/01/2021 21:02

I just saw this on twitter and it got me thinking how disgraceful it is that we haven't heard a peep out of Barnados the NSPCC et al since the Keira Bell case. They were very keen to get a joint statement out before the case.

Reminder: www.barnardos.org.uk/news/joint-statement-barnardos-nspcc-national-childrens-bureau-and-childrens-society-about-gender

Winesalot · 09/01/2021 21:05

That is a painful read.

Levine also told the court that because trans activists attacked critics as transphobic, few dared speak out. He said: “Critical and cautious voices are shouted down as transphobic, hateful and engaging in conversion therapy. Such a climate has created an intimidating and hostile environment where silence and acquiescence are the inevitable consequence. It is left to those of us at the end of our careers, who have nothing to lose, to voice our concerns.”

And yet, we have some male activists who come onto this board and state they will ‘listen’ to experts and who deny categorically that experts are being silenced. I wonder if the number of experts that speak out against medical transition for under 18s is n+1.

Particularly for the female cohort that conveniently seems to get minimized by the male posters.

It is like the question... how many women being harmed will it take before female safe spaces are restored. It is always n+1.

The chilling effect is being exposed a little more every week now.

Winesalot · 09/01/2021 21:07

I wonder if the number of experts that speak out against medical transition for under 18s is n+1.

Oops. Try again

I wonder if the number of experts need to speak out against medical transition for under 18s before they are listened to is n+1.

This, exactly this.

Excellent article and great the expert evidence has been released for all to see.

What times we live in though, that expert evidence should include the statement "it was medically impossible to turn a girl into a boy, and vice versa". ConfusedHmm

That’s shocking. Are the full expert opinions available anywhere? (The article quotes bits of them.) They sound devastating.

persistentwoman · 09/01/2021 21:16

What an excellent yet shocking article. I hope that this is picked up by the rest of the press - people really need to understand the reality of what is happening.

Igneococcus · 09/01/2021 21:19

The comments will be interesting to read, but I think they won't be released until the moderators start working tomorrow.

Well, this is just my personal experience. My DD 22 has ASD. At the age of 4 she decided she wanted to be a boy, called herself Tom, presented at school in reception as a boy, insisted her hair was cut short and chose to wear the Clark’s ‘boys’ school shoes and boys school uniform. We just went along with it (she was in the middle of two brothers). I worry if she had done this now we would have been pushed down the transition road. As it was she decided at the age of 6 to be a girl again and then became ultra stereotypically ‘girly’. Neither of these were really her true self. She knew she was different, she knew something wasn’t ‘right’ and she coped by copying and imitating, as part of this process she tried being a bit to see if that was what the issue was. It took until she was 17 and a complete mental health breakdown to diagnose what the actual issue was and access appropriate support. ASD in girls is vastly under diagnosed due to the different presentation and the ability of many girls to mask so effectively (at huge cost to their mental health). There is a high correlation between ASD in girls and transgender. They don’t need to transition they need appropriate diagnostic assessments and support.

Idratherberude · 09/01/2021 21:41

I long wondered if there are some autistic traits in my toddler, last week the nursery have said they want her to be assessed as they agree that she might be autistic.
I've had a good cry about my fears for her future with all this bullshit and just hope that she isn't drawn down this path. Thank goodness for the women fighting for children and to push back.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 21:46

Wow. Actually reading it more slowly, this couldn't really be worded more strongly. It's devastating:

'“Thousands of adolescents are being offered ‘treatment’ with puberty blockers, sex-contrary hormones, and then, finally for some, with a variety of surgical procedures. In the UK as in Sweden, this is in spite of the non-existent research evidence that these treatments are of any long-term benefit to the young people in question,” he said.

IQ might be damaged by puberty blockers, he added, and effects such as a deeper voice and facial hair, as well as possible infertility in girls taking the drugs, were irreversible.

Gillberg said there was “growing anecdotal evidence that many would regret their decision to undergo the biological sex change”. Doctors should tell families that they were “dealing with a live experiment on adolescents and children”.'

gardenbird48 · 09/01/2021 21:47

hi FV, glad to hear your daughter has now managed to access appropriate support and hopefully is making good progress.

Part of what concerns me is that there are so many people needing proper support, like the girls with hard to diagnose ASD, that are not getting it because so much attention is being diverted by the 'getting kids medically transitioned' agenda.

Obviously gender questioning/distressed kids need quality help but if they could focus on improving ASD diagnosis in girls, it sounds like they would cut out a significant group of potential transitioners with all the resulting resources and costs (of transitioning and possibly detransitioning/legal action).

MoltenLasagne · 09/01/2021 21:51

Fantastic article, glad to see it pointed out that a) most gender dysphoria resolves itself, b) puberty blockers are an unknown live experiment on children that c) in fact increase suicidality in those who take them and d) clinicians are being silenced from expressing their doubts about them.

Voice0fReason · 09/01/2021 21:54

It makes me so cross that this information isn't being shouted from the rooftops for fear of people sounding transphobic.
That's an excellent article.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 21:54

Yep, Molten. It's various things that people have been trying to explain for the past few years, all spelled out utterly clearly.

Great article. Let's hope it gets read widely.

HecatesCats · 09/01/2021 21:58

because trans activists attacked critics as transphobic, few dared speak out.

What a mess they are making of other people's lives.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 22:09

non-existent research evidence that these treatments are of any long-term benefit

many would regret their decision to undergo the biological sex change

a live experiment on adolescents and children

the rate of suicide in adults is significantly higher after transgendering

Apologies for requoting. It's just quite shocking to see it all written out so plainly.

Winesalot · 09/01/2021 22:13

Gillberg, a psychiatrist at Gothenburg University in Sweden who holds posts at several universities including Glasgow, is reviewing research into what happens to children who receive treatment for gender dysphoria. The study has not yet been published.

Anyone else looking forward to this study being published? I wonder if the Dr will use both UK and Swedish data. That would be most useful especially with the latest action from the Swedish government in how trans issues were dealt with in the media.

Siablue · 09/01/2021 23:15

Wow this is strong evidence no wonder the court made the decision they did. Professor Gilberg is an expert in Autism and really internationally respected. This isn’t some nobody they have found to back them up.
