To want to send Tom Felton a basket of fruit

Via eagle owl?
Great that he's the only member of the younger HP cast who refused to villify Rowling.
I think he has a film coming out 'A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting'. It's got 65% on rotten tomatoes. Can we buy it and make it a cult hit despite unfavorable reviews? Like Labyrinth etc. Mum power must be used responsibly to champion free speech and critical thinking.

Don’t worry, Indya Moore is also in that movie as Cat Lady so no matter the tomato-score they are not going to slam that movie.

TheBuffster · 03/01/2021 15:33

Just had to Google her. Clearly out of the 'hip' loop.

Tom Felton is on TikTok and my daughter follows him. She tells me that he gets a lot of stick from TRAs on there. Good for him for not biting off the hand that fed him!

StuntNun · 03/01/2021 17:46

Did he post anything or just decline to get involved publicly?

CodenameVillanelle · 03/01/2021 17:47

@StuntNun

Did he post anything or just decline to get involved publicly?
He declined to get involved. He unliked a tweet by JK he had liked just before #istandwithmayagate but he carries on repping Harry Potter on his social media. That's probably more for his career than to support JK but it's better than a kick in the teeth I guess
TheChampagneGalop · 03/01/2021 17:51

He doesn't deserve a gift for simply not getting involved. It would be great if he actually spoke out against the harassment of JKR.

Thewithesarehere · 03/01/2021 17:55

What has he said? Can anyone post a link please?
Also, is that movie available on prime or Netflix?

TheBuffster · 03/01/2021 19:10

He just said he wasn't wading in.
Yes, I suppose my standards are just very low. Any HP star that doesn't throw JK under the bus is a good thing in my book.
Just thinking he's getting a bit of a tra bashing, which is a pity.

Also just want him to open gloatingly at Slytherin table.Grin

Probably better to send him an I ♥️JKR t-shirt.

TheChampagneGalop · 03/01/2021 20:00

Haha yes. That would be sight for sore eyes, to see him post a selfie in that.

OneEpisode · 03/01/2021 20:01

I hadn’t heard of Indya before. Yet Indya is on every channel including twitter. 10th December tweet is a beaut.

*Me: it just sucks that I can't just be an actor without the pressure & ridicule of being a "celebrity."

Them: Yeah it's a complicated responsibility and an impossible answer.

Me: WAIT JESUS WAS A CELEBRITY! I wonder how he dealt with it.

Them: he was crucified.*

TheBuffster · 03/01/2021 21:20

I can't really understand that. But did they equate themselves with Jesus there?
Glad I'm not on Twitter then.
But then neither is Jesus 😂

OP posts:
OneEpisode · 03/01/2021 21:59

I think they did indeed compare their problems with those of Jesus.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/01/2021 22:11

As John Stuart Mill said, “Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.”

Unless he’s actually speaking up in support, he’s done nothing praiseworthy.

Impatiens · 03/01/2021 22:42

This ^

KarensandChads · 03/01/2021 23:16

He said that he's the last person who should wade in with opinions on what other people have said (when asked about JKR and the trans community).

I don't blame him for keeping well out of it. Why should he have to give the world his private opinions? He comes across as likeable. He seems to get on with the cast and crew of Harry Potter too. He has a good friendship (?) with Emma Watson. I think he's doing the mature thing by not sharing his opinions. Unlike EW and others, of course.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 03/01/2021 23:27

He's also good pals with his 'dad' Jason Isaacs who (I bloody hope because I love him, hello to Jason) seems sensible and hasn't seemed to get involved either; again low bar but I'll take it.

Tanith · 04/01/2021 15:35

I thought very few of the HP cast got involved, and only a handful of the younger members, despite what was stirred up publicly.
Most of them seem to have wisely kept out of it.

TheBuffster · 04/01/2021 16:50

Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Ron, Cho and Luna all made statements.
The only remotely even handed statement was from Luna and that was along the lines of 'I don't agree with Twitter being the platform for this complicated argument and I think tw have rights'.
She still got veiled threats from tra though. Because she didn't mindlessly parrot twaw like the others.
As for Emma Watson's feminism it's an absolute joke and as far as I can tell involves centuring men and the right to decline a corset.
I don't think staying out of it is wise. JK is rightly using her platform for sex based rights. She should have people backing her up but everyone is afraid. Afraid for their careers. Afraid for their safety. We're being silenced and people are having to go along with things due to fear.
Doesn't sound like a fair debate to me.

My 15 DD loves Tom Felton ❤️

Tanith · 04/01/2021 17:28

That's still only 5, TheBuffster and I felt very sorry for Evanna Lynch.

There were hundreds of kids in HP. I don't think Oliver and James Phelps, or Matthew Lewis, for example, made statements. Even some of the statements made were a bit wishy washy, for all the TRA braying that went on at the time.

CodenameVillanelle · 04/01/2021 18:28

Miriam margolyes aka professor sprout also stuck the boot into JK

TheBuffster · 04/01/2021 18:46

There were Hundreds of kids involved, but let's be real, the main cast are the only ones with a platform anyone cares about.
