I've just watched this and felt so uncomfortable the entire way through because of the way they treated the women on the teams. Am I being overly sensitive?

Probably not. I ended up complaining about the drag section last year including the term fishy. I think misogyny is on par for the course for the show.

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 01/01/2021 08:22

Racism = bad
Homophobia = bad
Sexism = ffs we're only having a laugh, bloody po faced feminists ruining the fun for everybody.

MindyStClaire · 01/01/2021 08:36

I think the problem was in the casting. All the men were sharp, professional comedians. The women were from other backgrounds. A Sara Pascoe or Jo Brand or any one of a number of other female comedians would've changed the dynamic.

ImAllOut · 01/01/2021 09:10

Yeah I think it was probably more the nature of having Maya Jama and Stacey Solomon alongside male comedians, rather than female comedians.

JaneAustenFanClub · 01/01/2021 09:14

Agree that they should have had some female comedians on - that would have helped. Jimmy Carr is pretty sexist generally though.

ScrapThatThen · 01/01/2021 09:43

I wonder if the female comedians have a view on the show. Or want to be on it, It would be interesting to hear.

Timmytimeout · 01/01/2021 09:55

Yes I found the casting was problematic. The 'dumb' women Vs the educated and witty men Hmm and it felt like a lot of the quips were at the expense of the two women too.

grafittiartist · 01/01/2021 10:05

I refused to watch it after last year- terrible.
Glad I didn't bother!

Collidascope · 01/01/2021 10:12

I didn't watch it, but as others have said, it was sexist last year. I'm really over male panel shows with all the dick-waving, and Noel Fielding or Richard Adoyade being oh-so-quirky and offbeat.

Babdoc · 01/01/2021 10:14

I have refused to watch anything involving Jimmy Carr since his repulsive rape jokes. I doubt I have missed anything worthwhile.

nyenc · 01/01/2021 10:51

It a single female comedian. Why? When there are so many options

nyenc · 01/01/2021 10:51

Not a*

CatsCantCatchNewYear2 · 01/01/2021 11:54

This.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/01/2021 12:11

I agree, anything with Jimmy Carr is normally pretty awful though tbf.

SuperPug · 01/01/2021 23:28

Watching it on catch up and it is awful - flat, unfunny and woefully miscast. Perhaps Sarah Pascoe, Jo Brand etc passed on this, understandably?
I’m finding Maya James particularly irritating and the “birthed” comment was just odd...

Daydrambeliever · 01/01/2021 23:35

There was chat on twitter about this last week. Rachel Parris tweeted about the male panelists being comedians and the females "celebrities" and asking those in charge why they hadn't thought to hire any female comedians. She then deleted her tweet because idiots on twitter were having a go at Stacey and Maya 🙄.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/01/2021 00:04

Ayoade singing 'Rabbit'. I've never seen him so animated before. It was very telling.

Nellle · 02/01/2021 00:14

@scrapthatthen Yes, Rachel Parris talked about it on Twitter. Unfortunately she deleted her original tweet due to a bit of depressing backlash, but there's still some discussion on there:

SuperPug · 02/01/2021 00:37

@WhereYouLeftIt - agreed. I thought that he was trying (badly) to point out how ridiculous that song is but he didn’t quite seem to get there...
It fell completely flat and while I’m not a fan of Stacey or Maya it felt like he/others were trying to humiliate them at that point, especially as both were clearly unfamiliar with the song.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 02/01/2021 00:52

Jimmy Carr is sexist as fuck (among other things).
The women were badly cast, which I don't know if it was by choice or circumstance, but it definitely made it a lot easier to laugh at them .

Even I rolled my eyes at some of their answers or things they came up with.

Skyliner001 · 02/01/2021 03:29

Dreadful this year. Needed Sarah Milligan, Jo Brand etc
