“Soul” movie - casual sexism

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice the casual sexism in this kids’ movie - one of the characters is called out by another character as having chosen the voice of a middle aged white woman, which is then described as the most annoying voice that exists...it reminded me of the vitriol directed at “Karen’s” and seemed really inappropriate in a movie for kids. (The movie isn’t great incidentally!)

I thought that was the point though Hopping. He thought his whole life’s purpose was to play the piano on stage but he was wrong.

We noticed the 'white woman' dig too. Not necessary and pretty rude to a lot of their audience.
The film was nice enough and followed a very well trod path for typical Disney characters, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised. The main character just isn't terribly likeable, he's selfish and lacks empathy but has a learning curve via the unborn soul. All tickety boo in the end.
It's not Pixar's finest work tbh.

I thought it was a lovely film, sexist joke aside. The best summary I’ve seen is ‘your passion is not your purpose’. Joe is so focused on achieving his goals as a musician that he forgets to engage in other parts of his life: he misses the beauty around him and doesn’t form meaningful relationships. I think it has a great message about the importance of pursuing the things you love, but finding the balance to enjoy the rest of your life as well.

I didn’t enjoy the movie as I found it the storyline too convoluted. Agree the main character lacked redeeming features.
I watched it with a group that included an 11 year old white girl and felt angry that Disney was telling her that her voice when she gets older will be the world’s most hated voice. How is that a good message Disney?

Yes I noticed this too. Kind of unpleasant.
I struggled a bit with the plot.
I read somewhere it was similar to Coco - but Coco was a far more enjoyable film.

Carlotta obviously it went right over my head then
