Gender GP - Safeguarding Concerns

Might be worth keeping an eye on Danial's account (unless and until it gets suspended). He is collecting concerning stories about Gender GP.

twitter.com/DanialWebb/status/1343815417417101312?s=20

THREAD: Since my recent tweets about GenderGP I've had several clinicians contact me with grave concerns around horrendous safeguarding failures with GenderGP's operation. I'm going to recount one here today. Others will follow. 1/5

Case one concerns a girl, aged 15, with a long history of repeated suicide attempts, some requiring hospitalisation. She identified as trans though her neither parents nor her clinician agreed, seeing instead a profoundly traumatised child. 2/5

This child, aged, 15, travelled to GenderGP in Wales. Without any consultation with CAMHS or GIDS ot he child's parents, GenderGP prescribed testosterone the same day. The child is now a young woman aged 18, identifying as a transman. 3/5

Despite GIDS/GIC taking over prescribing, despite the breast removal, despite being rehoused by the local authority to escape 'transphobic' parents, the self harm and suicide attempts continue. 4/5

To recap, GenderGP prescribed testosterone to a 15 year old girl with a long history of suicide attempts, after a single appointment, without any reference to her parents or to local mental health services.

Why are the directors of GenderGP not facing prosecution for this? 5/5

Thank you Daniel for your work for throwing light onto their actions. It is quite shocking to see how they have continued to operate.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 08:05

Another thank you for the amazing sleuthing Danial ! You are a Star

As Webberley is temporarily suspended I don't know how her and her husband can get away with it, genuinely, how can she be practising and don't the GMC have an eye on her?

I suspect they get away with it by not technically practicing. They won’t be doing anything clinical or patient facing. And they have sold GGP so they are not running the practice even. Also the GMC will have no control over activity that takes place abroad.

But rest assured when the Webberley’s fitness to practise case is finally heard (possibly this year at some point) everything will be publicly aired and I doubt it will go well for the Webberley’s.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 09:55

Hasn’t it already been heard and that is why they are temporarily suspended from practice? Reaccreditation would presumably be conditional on evidence of improvement, eg. CPD in the areas found lacking?

They must be expecting to be reinstated when the suspension is reviewed again.

Even if they are struck off they can apply to be reregistered after 5 years.

They are utterly shameless!

ArabellaScott · 12/01/2021 09:58

I'm just a bit puzzled as to why something like Dispatches or the Mail hasn't already run a story on these two. Certainly seems to be plenty of material for a decent investigative piece.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 10:28

There were stories in the Press until just before they (allegedly) exiled themselves to Spain. Now Danial has done all that sleuthing and Baroness Nicholson has followed it up maybe there will be renewed interest?

umbel · 12/01/2021 11:11

Just a quick note to say that when considering the numbers of registered patients, it’s worth knowing that GGP will happily provide a referral letter for ‘top surgery’ (and maybe other forms of surgery) to those who request this, for the princely sum of £150. No need to register as a patient/client.

For those under 18, they follow WPATH ‘guidance’. I don’t know if this means they will refer under 18s, or whether even with this letter under 18s could get this surgery in the UK from any of the surgeons listed as doing this work privately, but maybe they could aboard? At least one on the list is in Poland.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 11:23

It was interesting to see how they cut costs. Rather than using a psychiatrist to diagnose gender dysphoria, how about a Community Support Worker?

No they are interim suspended which means that their substantive case has not yet been heard. The interim suspension will likely remain in place (to protect the public) until their case is heard.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 19:17

Signalbox - thanks for the clarification 👍

Signalbox · 12/01/2021 19:18

It’s not very easy to get back onto a register once you’ve been struck off. It’s not a simple case of application and some people will never be allowed back on whatever improvements they make.

Signalbox · 12/01/2021 19:23

On her Gender GP blog HW says she was expecting her hearing to be in 2019. I imagine Covid put a stop to that though.

GenderWang · 12/01/2021 19:46

Interesting! Copying text from GenderGp website gets you blocked for “Malicious activity” Shock

There’s an invitation to respond sending a heap of code to explain it’s all a mistake. Is that some sort of cyber self-doxing trick??

Thingybob · 12/01/2021 21:27

For those under 18, they follow WPATH ‘guidance’.

I can't see how they do that. WPATH Standards of Care (guidance) state that a child/adolescent must give "informed consent" before being prescribed PB yet an English court has ruled that is unlikely (or extremely unlikely) that a child has the ability to give informed consent.

I guess they use a different definition of informed consent?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/01/2021 21:45

they have sold GGP so they are not running the practice even.

Pretty sure they haven't. They have just tried to hide their ownership in layers of shell companies.

yourhairiswinterfire · 13/01/2021 01:26

Baroness Nicholson has tweeted the letter she has sent to Matt Hancock, asking for the drugs to be reclassified so that no UK pharmacist would be able to lawfully dispense a prescription sourced in the current manner.

Flowers for the Baroness.

Gurufloof · 13/01/2021 07:49

I remember a video of helen webberley talking about how much trans people need her services (or gender gps services) how they are a marginalised group yada yada, but this is self evidently not true.
She has a finger in every pie it seems, so shes not really all that concerned for trans welfare, shes just making a buck.

When I get home later I'm gonna find all the sections she advertises and has her name mentioned and list them here. To be forever archived I hope.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/01/2021 17:13

The Baroness’s letter is good.

Gurufloof · 13/01/2021 17:57

I've started the quest to find where Helen webberley shows up.
I've found her flogging "clinical opinions LLP"

Danial explains more about the Webberleys moving their clinic to Spain whilst they still live in Wales.
