Scotland's Gender Equality Index

Sorry if thread on this already, couldn't see one.

Published by the Scottish Government on 18 December data.gov.scot/genderindex/gender-equality-index-2020.html

Looks at the differences between men and women in Work, Money, Time, Knowledge, Power and Health

Sounds interesting and important, but guess what?

"In the majority of the data sources used in the Gender Equality Index the respondent has been asked to self-identify either their gender identity or sex by selecting from a choice of binary options of man/male or woman/female, therefore the terms ‘men’ and ‘women’ have been used throughout this report"

So it won't actually tell us the difference between men and women.

The low score for Power was driven by women’s underrepresentation on the boards of private and public sector organisations, and in senior positions across police, the judiciary, the media and sport
Easily improved by getting some more transwomen into senior positions? Hmm

And here's another one www.gov.scot/publications/time-use-scotland-2020-gender-analysis-ons-online-time-use-survey/
which says

As respondents were asked to self-identify their sex, we have reported this as gender, and have therefore used the terms men and women

So we have allowed people to pick their sex in this data, therefore meaning that male people can skew the information in a way that disadvantages female people if they want to. Because the positive experience of filling it in as preferred is more important than the data it is intended to generate.

Honestly, why the fuck bother now collating this data? It's fictional. Meaningless. There is no point to the time, manpower and taxpayer money in gathering this, it's no longer justifiable.

Agreed MichelleofzeResistance. There is no point. I stopped filling in equality monitoring forms due to the pointless nature of them. The Scottish government is astonishingly thick and driven by gender ideology - just what you want in the middle of a pandemic. You think the Westminster cabinet is the most intellectually vacuous you could conjure up, then you see Holyrood. Barely a cabinet. First Minister operates a presidential style of govt, abetted by a civil service fuelled entirely by queer ideology. And most of civic Scotland, comfy in its second home, sucks at the teat of govt largesse.

There's a contact email address and I'm tempted to write and ask them what the point of gender equality data is which can't distinguish between actual men and women but I deal with this part of the Scottish government through work and I'm not sure it would be wise.

This is the thing that pisses me off.

They are depending on the majority of people thinking gender means sex and answering accordingly.

That's not on though. If they are moving away from sex they need to make it clear to respondents what they are ticking.

They are relying on the stats being ok because there aren't that many people who will read the gender question as gender, and answer not in line with their sex.

They can't have it both ways.

They talk about girls and boys being raised differently etc. This is sex. But they can't say it.

Which renders the whole thing pointless tbh.

NiceGerbil · 31/12/2020 00:00

All the news outlets use uterus haver/ people with cervices etc on the womens gynaecological health stuff and lgbtqi+++

On the front page when talking about covid mortality, or the plight of girls in X country. They use man woman etc to mean sex.

It's lazy and illogical. You can't have different definitions of the same word on different parts of the same news site.

Of course they won't say testicle havers are more at risk from covid, on the front page or the telly news, because everyone would go bananas.

MichelleofzeResistance · 31/12/2020 11:37

They are depending on the majority of people thinking gender means sex and answering accordingly.

They're depending on the majority of the people playing by the rules so that some don't have to.

I'm afraid fuck that. If it's fictional then fine, I'll enter whatever I feel like on the day and wheyhey. It's not like anything matters but me, or there's social responsibility or anything is it? Or alternatively I'll decline to answer on the grounds there's no box specificially matching my sense of self so obviously they can't expect me to engage. I'm not playing games to enable this. This is tax payer money being fucked about with against all sense or reasonability.
