Is Canada Waking Up?

apols if cross post with anyone but I thought this was good news. A good article from mainstream media in Canada. It will be interesting to see what reaction this journalist gets.

I do think it is strange that a country like Canada with some very high profile reasons for people being aware of the problems (a certain person who likes suing minority beauticians and entering beauty contests among them) that they are so entrenched.

I think a lot hinges on media coverage. Without journalists brave enough to post the infobarwly anybody is aware of it. Witness Barbie Kardashian, all news of which was actively suppressed in ireland, although I think for a while one could read it out with the country.

What type of paper is the national post?

Genesis1v27 · 15/12/2020 12:28

The National Post have been good on this issue, for example they've been covering the myriad problems with the very worrying Bill C-6 (it purportedly criminalises "conversion therapy," but defines this very widely) for a while now. Some articles:

Barbara Kay: The case for deep-sixing Bill C-6
Barbara Kay: The problems with Bill C-6 and the gender affirmation model
Lametti says conversion therapy bill protects 'good faith conversations,' despite calls for amendments
Raymond J. de Souza: Are we supposed to take David Lametti at his word that C-6 won't target faith leaders?

I haven't read the piece in the OP yet, but the same writer had another article on a related topic as well yesterday: 'I feel angry': Why some people regret and reverse their transgender decisions.

I do hope Canadians wake up to what is being done to their children before it goes any further.

@Manderleyagain

What type of paper is the national post?
It's a right leaning paper.

There are only two really national papers in Canada, the Globe and Mail, which is fairly centrist though some people consider it slightly right, and the National Post. The latter was set up as a right wing paper. Most Canadians who see themselves as o the left probably get their news from the CBC, either online, radio, or television.

The NP is aboutthe only major news source in English Canada that has covered this issue. IN fact they have been giving good, really journalistic coverage of a lot of issues in recent years. Which shocks me still in the same way that the better work the Times does shocks a lot of previously Guardian reading people in the UK. Even when I don't agree with their take, I find I am more likely to trust them to check their facts and ask questions.

Unfortunately, most progressive Canadians will never read the NP or even be aware of what they are printing.
