LAW/GENDER/BODY/TEXTS are back with another..... errrr..... fascinating talk.

I realise that one might prefer to be bitten to death by a massive swarm of midges, but I still have to ask - anyone care to join me in attending this? 😁😁😁

How will they manage to square the circle?

  • women who don't want to share spaces with transwomen aren't women, they're just "ciswomen" and "women's rights" applies only to the rights of real women, aka transwomen.
  • women never actually had a "right" to not share spaces with men, that was a privilege only granted because we were nice and men could rescind that right at any time if we keep behaving badly. So mind yourselves, ladies.
  • transwomen are women therefore [any complete bollocks that anyone feels like saying] because that's what happens when your premise is a logical contradiction.

it'll be the last one, won't it? It's always that last one. Logic isn't valid if trans identities are.

I’m going NonnyMouse. We can compare notes.

I listened in on this talk. There was a highly abstract presentation arguing (I think) that the values underpinning trans-exclusive radical feminism and trans-inclusive feminism cannot be clearly delineated, so therefore there is no conflict of rights which requires negotiation between the two parties.

Two absolute sheroes popped up in the Q&A giving concrete examples of conflicts of rights: the Scottish Forensic Medical Services Bill and trans women in sport. The presenter was floundering. Apparently, trauma can’t be reduced to the penis and we shouldn’t ask intrusive questions of health professionals. Sport is inherently ableist so we shouldn’t look to it as a site for women’s liberation.

Brilliant.

Flowers for LukewarmCustard
Thank you for taking one for the team - and well done for the sheroes asking such clear questions. Sunlight is so important.
