'Predatory' NHS gynaecologist who secretly filmed nearly 100 videos of himself having sex with unsuspecting women with spy camera hidden in his glasses is struck off

"A 'predatory' NHS gynaecologist has been struck off after secretly filming nearly 100 videos of himself having sex with women while wearing spy-camera glasses.

"Senior clinician Dr Jomo Mathurine, 50, recorded unsuspecting women - including his 19-year-old student nurse girlfriend - by installing covert cameras in a number of devices including a key fob and a pair of 'covert digital spectacles'."

Imagine! A sexual abuser displays extreme cunning and duplicity in his efforts to prey on women.

I guess it's another one we should file under "This never happens."

Struck off??!! I hope he is going to prison.

grey12 · 04/12/2020 13:43

"Having sex"????!!! You mean raped!!! Angry

persistentwoman · 04/12/2020 13:43

He got only 14 months. Imagine being one of his patients Sad.
No doubt he'll enjoy all the mixed sex spaces he can access when he's out. Hmm

QuentinWinters · 04/12/2020 13:46
Shock I'm extremely suspicious of his motivations in becoming a gynaecologist
ImaSababa · 04/12/2020 13:51

Are we safe ANYWHERE?

I truly despair.

Confused - is this referring to last December?
www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/18089297.jomo-mathurine-nbsp-sentenced-voyeurism-reading-crown-court/

He was sentenced a year ago - has he just been struck off now?

GoldenNCurly · 04/12/2020 13:55

If you read the article he didn't rape his patients...
He has consensual sex with a younger nurse in training and filmed her without consent and then when she found out he threatened that she would lose her job.
He was struck off for abuse of power and severed 14 months for the illegal videoing

This times a million.

Yes, I was confused as to why people were talking about rape - wasn't sure if they meant the power imbalance/voyeurism or were mistaken.
DeaconBoo · 04/12/2020 14:00

Judge Sarah Campbell, questioning the counsellor’s findings, said: “A very experienced probation officer has formed the view Mr Mathurine has issues with sexual entitlement.”

yeah, no shit...

GoldenNCurly · 04/12/2020 14:02

Its a shame that illegally filming someone preforming a sexual act doesn't get a longer sentence, but not a surprise.
There really need to be a ban on the distribution of spy device, especially when they are overwhelming used against women and children. Its sickening

mumsyandtiredzz · 04/12/2020 14:10

Oh this is so grim, have read countless stories like this involving male gynos. Totally agree that they’ve more than likely been drawn towards that speciality for a reason.

RoyalCorgi · 04/12/2020 14:13

Yup. Bizarre, isn't it? You'd think that you'd be automatically struck off if you went to gaol for sexual offences.

And yes to I'm extremely suspicious of his motivations in becoming a gynaecologist. The truth is predators take jobs where they have easy access to victims. Sexual assault is relatively common in the medical profession. Imagine doing all those years of training just so you could assault women.

And yet we are led to believe that no man would identify as a woman to gain access to victims.

I understood the title to mean he raped and filmed his gynaecological patients, but from the article I think it's saying he recorded consensual sex with various women (a number of the 100 videos were with the same woman or women) without their knowledge. So thankfully not rape, but still utterly despicable.

itsor · 04/12/2020 14:20

Oh sorry, someone already explained it. I opened the tab ages ago and it hasn't refreshed so I didn't see the other messages

mumsyandtiredzz · 04/12/2020 14:26

Yes, and not always solely training as a gynaecologist to access women but I’d imagine a lot of men who have gone into medicine for other reasons would then find themselves drawn to gynaecology if they were a misogynist or a pervert or just plain sinister.

Every time a thread on here has a woman expressing unease at having male drs for intimate matters you always get a lot of weirdly defensive people and claims of ‘they’re professionals’ as though that excludes them from the overall category of ‘men’

But yeah, it may be harder in the future to have that choice if gender identity replaces sex and the male dr is down as non-binary and therefore not male Sad

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/12/2020 14:30

Apologies I did read the article twice albeit with multiple interruptions I’ll ask for my post to be removed Flowers

Peachy1381 · 04/12/2020 14:36

Wow, this is so grim. That poor 19 year old. Really glad he's been struck off and won't work with women again as well.

Agree, I've seen plenty of women taking a hammering on here (not this section) for not wanting to see males for intimate healthcare, sadly. It's quite scary how many people believe that if a man is clever, highly educated and professional, it makes it impossible for him to be a pervert, sexual predator, paedophile, misogynist, etc.

Attitudes like that give these men more power, because it makes women too afraid and intimidated to speak up in case no one believes her over him :(

Gncq · 04/12/2020 14:54

I'm actually relieved it's not a story about a gynecologist raping his patients while they were under unaesthetic or something.

And I'm sad that I'm relieved about that.

theskyispink · 04/12/2020 14:58

"including his 19-year-old student nurse girlfriend"

Right then.

yourhairiswinterfire · 04/12/2020 15:14

It also says they didn't find the key fob camera, and they only know about it because he recorded himself (through the glasses) setting it up.

What else didn't they find? It's not impossible to imagine someone this sick could have recorded his patients.

Peachy1381 · 04/12/2020 15:23

Yes, I felt the same reading this.

There is a YouTube video by Stacey Dooley about these spy cams. They are apparently a big problem in South Korea. Even gangs set these cameras up everywhere and sell the footage. You'd never notice, what these tiny cameras can be put into. Here's she is showing that m.youtube.com/watch?v=ggYIsnUgUdU I have read stories about this in the UK too in publicly accessible toilets and changing rooms.
