Wtaf, this video is on YouTube for gods sake, what is going on with the world.

OP posts:

Just horrible, but sadly doesn't surprise me - YT seem to be happy to platform some really horrible stuff, mainly animal abuse so this is an entirely new level of awful.

By keeping this video up, won't YT be profiting from Valentina's death? Angry

Imnobody4 · 04/12/2020 11:43

This isn't just about Russia it's really about You Tube and the Internet generally. It's undoing decades of progress in women's rights in a few years. The men watching and donating together with the lack of ethical standards of IT giants must be tackled by governments.

allmywhat · 04/12/2020 11:45

There's something deeply wrong in Russian society, and violence against women is only one symptom of it, unfortunately.

I know you don't mean to downplay, but this is downplaying. Systemic violence against 50% of the population is "only one symptom" of Russian society being wrong?

I'm not having a go at you, I'm just trying to express something about how we mentally trivialise women's issues and "other" them, even when are women. Maybe violence against women and the suppression of women's rights is the reason Russia is fucked up? Maybe the use of violence to control women is at the heart and the core of every fucked up society?

notacooldad · 04/12/2020 11:46

This has stopped r in my tracks and I feel quite emotional.
Clearly this wasn't the first time she had been abused by him as it mentioned he had pepper sprayed her. He must have done a lot more before it escalated to pay to view. He has the audacity to say he loves her!!

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 04/12/2020 11:58

Russia has a very poor record on gay issues too.

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 04/12/2020 12:01

Oh and to return to the subject of the thread:

Fuck me, the world is even shitter than I thought it was yesterday; just when you think it can't get any worse it fucking does.

TheQueef · 04/12/2020 12:06

Valentina Flowers
I can't click, thanks for the thread.

Yohoheaveho · 04/12/2020 12:24

Horrifying
I think this is in part related to authoritarianism, a society ruled by one man who does exactly as he pleases emboldens other men that they too can do exactly as they please and will not be held accountable:(

allmywhat · 04/12/2020 13:04

I think this is in part related to authoritarianism

Yes. Authoritarianism and oppression of women are two sides of the same coin. Authoritarian regimes offer tyranny over women as a bribe to men to persuade them to accept a tyrannical government.

(I originally found that Twitter thread via this forum. does anyone know if it has been rewritten as an essay in non-Twitter format?)

I also have been thinking about this essay in relation to some comments on this thread. victimfocusblog.com/2018/01/03/stop-asking-me-what-about-men/

gymbummy · 04/12/2020 13:10

This is just horrifying. Valentina and her baby deserve justice. Those evil scumbags who watched.... I have no words.

WeeBisom · 04/12/2020 13:24

This is awful. I’ve already seen online men making memes and jokes about this :(

Yohoheaveho · 04/12/2020 13:28

Would they think it funny if their daughter or sister or mother was treated like that? How would they react if a woman murdered a man like that?
PacificSpecific · 04/12/2020 13:41

Fucking hell.
I wonder if anyone watching these things calls police - and if they do, if anything would be done anyway.

MondayYogurt · 04/12/2020 14:11

They (many man) don't care. I think the affection many people assume all men have for women in their families is overestimated (perhaps because we HOPE it exists). Why didn't the police shut his camera down? Why didn't the paramedics pull the plug out? Why was he still streaming after his previous paid-for violence? Because men allowed him to continue, and tacitly endorsed his behaviour. I imagine he will earn more now, as he is more famous.
MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2020 14:14

I can’t click disturbing enough to read here
Wtf

thenightsky · 04/12/2020 14:15

@PacificSpecific

I'm sure the police would come out if someone called in to say a crime was being committed such as house breaking, car stealing etc.
LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 04/12/2020 14:18

I struggle to comprehend what I have just read.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/12/2020 14:21

It’s so very depressing. I can’t click on the link because don’t want anyone to profit from such a video.

VulvaPerson · 04/12/2020 17:11

Up to two years, what the actual fuck?

The lives of women seem to be worth less and less each fucking time.

Yohoheaveho · 04/12/2020 17:14

I wonder if anyone watching these things calls police
Call me a cynic but I feel like in Russia the (de facto) function of the police is to help the gvt stay in power and oppress the people.
He did it b/c he knew he could get away with it

nancybotwinbloom · 04/12/2020 17:20

I'm Speechless.

This is like something from Hostel.

People paid for this to happen? No one reported him to the police.

WTAF is wrong with people.

How is this still up.

That poor, poor girl and her unborn baby.

He is a fucking monster. He is vile and two years!! For taking two lives! That is just as
Horrific.

MorrisZapp · 04/12/2020 17:24

The Daily Mail are saying its unconfirmed if she was pregnant, and that he faces up to 15 years in jail.

Apparently he beat her severely earlier in the live stream. I feel ill.

ArabellaScott · 04/12/2020 17:25

Anyone watching this video at any time should be prosecuted.

VettiyaIruken · 04/12/2020 17:27

God that's chilling. Not only should he have got life but so should the person who paid him to kill her.

As for decriminalising abuse against women if you happen to be in a relationship with them, I have no idea where to even begin.

Someone in power actually went yeah you know, it's really not fair men can't beat their wives and girlfriends, let's get rid of that and go back to the good old days

nancybotwinbloom · 04/12/2020 17:33

@ArabellaScott

Anyone watching this video at any time should be prosecuted.
I agree 100%
