What a surprise!

A good reminder. Thanks.

Much of FWR was too, so thanks to MNHQ for allowing us to have this space.

Apollo440 · 02/12/2020 09:18

Of course I know we were right! Just a reminder of the vilification she got for speaking up. And thanks to Mumsnet for giving us a voice.

Quietly vindicated.

BTW, her book the Ickabog might be a good Christmas present for kids around the age of 7. Sadly, I think my little relatives might be too young for it, but I would be considering it if they were older!

I think Mumsnet has been great at drawing attention to this.

I came her because I'd heard about Mumsnet being a 'hotbed of transphobia' and thought that sounded a little strange. I suspect others (including the rich and famous) found their way here too. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Emily Maitlis and JK Rowling read these boards.

Scumble · 02/12/2020 09:25

And Suzanne Moore's comment underneath (can't remember if it was a reply or a related tweet) saying something along the lines that when she was at the Guardian journalists were forbidden from investigating anything to do with GIDS etc

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2020 09:30

I must admit that after being called bigoted and transphobic by a friend who is a liberal democrat councillor, i did feel somewhat vindicated yesterday and that he can fuck off to the far side of fuck with his unethical and dangerous sexist and homophobic bullshit.

Of course he won't even be paying attention to the court case much less the ramifications of it, particularly for women because he's not really that interested in the subject and hasn't got a vested interest other that appearing to be 'progressive' at surface level.

HecatesCats · 02/12/2020 09:32

Wise woman

My 5 yr old enjoyed it as did my older kids (up to 13) when I read it to them over the summer Smile

The backlash starts again judging by the nasty comments under that tweet. Why are people so horrible? It's because she's a woman, isn't it? Confused

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2020 10:13

JKR. An older wise woman, who was very perceptive in seeing the coming danger and risk and how it would all implode into an unmitigated mess which exposed the harm and corruption of others in positions of power and influence.

I guess in times gone by older, wise women who showed great foresight would have been seen as a threat to those who were corrupt and responsible for harm and would have been punished accordingly.

This, of course, would never happen in an era of 'progressive' thinking.

Its so fucking depressing isn't it?

RoyalCorgi · 02/12/2020 10:19

Has Owen "wrong side of history" said anything about this yet? Or the Guardian?

Vermeil · 02/12/2020 10:40

No, the Graun quickly shuffled it off the front page of their site and dropped it into the ‘society’ section, and it wasn’t even the top story there. They were busy enthusiastically celebrating a minor Hollywood celebrity’s transing by haircut, though.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2020 10:43

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

It's strange. My son in law had to fight to have a vasectomy when he was in his 30s, yet some people think that children can decide which gender they would like to be.
There are many adult women who are refused sterilisation too.

It occurs to me that when people disingenuously come up with the red herring about whether this judgment might affect teenager girls who need an abortion, a much more appropriate comparison is the fact that fully grown adults are routinely denied control over their own fertility, which they are perfectly able to consent to and which isn't remotely experimental.

PronounssheRa · 02/12/2020 10:48

Here is Suzanne Moores tweet about being prevented from investigating.
The Guardian are a fucking disgrace and a shadow of its former self.

I went along to Twitter after clicking the link on this post. And saw that Mermaids is trending in the UK. But for once - it's for a good reason! People are really questioning them, and beginning to see through them.

testing987654321 · 02/12/2020 11:10

Those initial responses to JK are particularly shocking when compared to yesterday's judgment. If someone thoughtful says "this looks like medical malpractice" to reply with "be kind" "shut up"
"Just stop" is embarrassing.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2020 11:24

Wouldn't it have been nice if people had been kind to Kiera when she was a teenager who didn't fit into the feminine heterosexual box?

MichelleofzeResistance · 02/12/2020 11:38

Well done Jo, you are another of the amazing women, like Keira and others, who have really shown what female courage is this year.

The replies now look rather....

Judges on a fact finding/evidence testing case to look at whether the Tavistock are acting within the law and treating children ethically, demonstrate clearly that they are not. That this is a medical and ethical scandal.

Comments: Why can't you just be Kind?

……….and just let clinics get on with not treating children ethically? Medically and ethically abusing children and their rights is 'kind?'

Comments: There's a long careful progress/its all been tested/ it's fine the evidence shows...

NO IT DOESN'T.

Read the judgement. It's right there. That was what this case was for. These assertions were tested, by a legal process, objectively collecting and weighing up evidence. The people providing the evidence were the experts in the UK providing the treatment and knowing the most about it, the best qualified to make the case. The judgement from checking the evidence objectively is that no. These things are not proven and in some cases are plain not true.

So what does 'be kind' mean really? Other than 'stop saying things that I don't want to have to admit to?'

RoyalCorgi · 02/12/2020 11:42

OJ has now retweeted Alison Phipps:

"It is so painful to see 'gender critical' feminists gloating about the judgment in Bell v Tavistock while trans people, and especially trans kids and their parents, are terrified about what it means for them. Solidarity with trans people always"

It's astonishing how stupid, deluded or evil (take your pick) you have to be to portray people expressing their belief that vulnerable children will no longer be subjected to dangerous medical experimentation as "gloating". What is wrong with these people? Seriously, what is wrong with them?

DrDavidBanner · 02/12/2020 11:47

I hate the term trans kids, theres just something so sinister about it don't you think?

VaggieMight · 02/12/2020 12:09

No one is gloating fgs, but very relieved that children aren't going to be given life changing experimental drugs. I believed the day would come, but I expected it to be in many years time. The NHS will see a lot of legal cases from the children affected when they are older, but no amount of money can make up for being infertile or having health problems later on.

Siameasy · 02/12/2020 12:38

Pick their language apart. They (the gender identity believers and the industry around it) are the ones who EXPERIMENTED ON CHILDREN. They are the ones who have to answer for what they’ve done.

No such thing as trans kids.
No such thing as gender beyond a social construct
You’re entitled to believe in a subjective feeling of “gender identity”; you are not entitled to force anyone else to believe. Not one person is obliged to believe in it. This is an ideology with no basis in fact
