It is a cracking statement.

This bit cannot be repeated enough: It needs sharing far and wide and referring to as often as possible.

The judgment handed down today has established the salient facts about puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones:

Puberty blockers are not ‘fully reversible’.
Puberty blockers do not ‘buy time’, they are the first stage of a medical pathway very few children come off.
There is no evidence that puberty blockers alleviate distress.
The pathway of blockers and cross-sex hormones has serious physical consequences, including the loss of fertility and full sexual function, with profound long-term risks and consequences.
The treatment is experimental.
The most damning evidence of complacency in the service is the fact that the GIDS offers troubled adolescents no alternative therapeutic treatment pathway.

Anyone who handwaves any of this away because feelings and emotive anecdotes is not someone who should be involved in making best interest decisions for children.

I know it's been said on the Keira thread but want to repeat what Datun said about Transgender Trend and Stephanie Davies-Arai. Stephanie has quietly and persistently worked to raise concerns about the lack of protection and safeguarding of these vulnerable children. It is no coincidence that TT were invited to be party to Keira's case while Stonewall and Mermaids were deemed to offer nothing of use to the judges.

I woke in Australia this morning to this brilliant development. I was late for my daughters physio because I was reading the judgement and Trangender Trends statement with a bit of Twitter thrown in. It’s honestly amazing.

The news here in aus showed the case and stated that children in Australia only go on puberty blockers with parents consent.... try telling that to the 15 year old who was removed from her family because their refusal to allow pb is abuse.

I really hope some sense can be shown here too. In the mean time I am so proud of all of the women back home in the uk who are doing such great work.

I hope Keira is feeling ok today and the next few days. She was wronged, in a most horrible way. The ruling sadly can't undo that. She's been exceptionally brave to stand up in this way and she never should have had to be.

I hope there are some clinicians shaking in their boots this morning.

I have read the NHS response in terms of amendments to GIDS. If any transperson out there is still trying to fudge the verdict and manoeuvre the outcome, then think again. It appears those already on treatment will be referred to the court. The NHS is taking no chances, and any doubts at all will mean court approval before continuing. They seem to have been prepared for this judgement

GenderGP has issued a statement saying it'll carry on as normal and a second statement saying that it's not actually illegal to issue puberty blockers to under 16. It states that as the judge was "unsure" whether a child could consent, they'll essentially check on a case by case basis.

So, it would appear the first step - a massive one - is taken but there needs further clarity to avoid kids being taken to people who can't separate safe-guarding from profit.

Any bona fide health care professional knows that careful documentation of evidence and outcomes is fundamental to any new treatments. Any organisation providing treatment and not diligently collecting data just confirms their lack of professionalism. It is appalling that the Tavistock just muddled along like this for so long. Completely unethical.

Just look at the regulatory processes going on around the covid19 vaccinations.
None of that happened with drugs given to these vulnerable children.

Also part of the judgement was that consent can't be fully given, because there have been no studies into the side-effects and long-term outcome of using blockers.
