Sanity prevails! Thank goodness.
I had one ovary removed a month ago - I had huge cysts on both ovaries and the original plan was to remove the one with the biggest cyst - cyst, ovary, fallopian tube, the lot.
When they actually got in there they realised that the ovary with the smaller cyst was the biggest problem - it had a large endometriotic cyst on it which had ruptured, so they look that ovary out instead. Fortunately the surgeon was able to save the other ovary, otherwise I would have lost both and had to go onto HRT....even though I am 43, he still did not want me to lose both ovaries as they are so essential for a woman's health.
Women who are forced into premature menopause have vastly increased risks of osteoporosis, heart disease and worst of all, dementia. What are the long term risks to people with female chromosomes being exposed to artificially high levels of male hormones, especially from such a young age? Does anybody actually know, or is there anyone out there with a scientific background who can hazard a guess?
Even as a layperson, this idea seems most unwise, to say the least.
