I've got a message on facebuik from a friend of a friend saying Edinburgh Council apparenty are playing fast and loose with them regarding education 'The message is that she might like to have a look at passages that the City of Edinburgh Council makes all local schools include in the equality and diversity policy and procedure documents."

Well WPUK were doing this and encouring those in each area to contact their council.

But maybe in this instance ForWomenScot would be the group to contact.

We are gathering data on Scottish organisations who misuse/misrepresent the Equality Act 2010. Eg Stating gender as a protected characteristic rather than sex.
If you have anything you would like to draw to our attention please contact us via email [email protected]
or twitter@Equality_FWS
Thanks

I have written to 3 organisations so far telling them they've got it wrong.

One put it right, eventually, and the others haven't had enough time. It's so f*ing obvious when the only one they get wrong is using 'gender' not 'sex' (oh and always putting gender transition first).

Every one of us should check the equality policies of every organisation we come across and write and keep writing when (inevitably?) they've got it wrong. I'm keeping an eye on the one I've licked into shape to check it doesn't back-track.

We've started systematically checking councils in Wales - it's tedious but important.

Starts off with a confusion of 'sex' and 'gender' and ends up with the former missing in action in the list of protected characteristics which have nonetheless expanded to include gender identity and even gender expression. And wandering stupefied in to job applications for multiple genders and prefer not to sayers.

PS if anyone wants to help (Hmm) please email us [email protected]

Hello is there a standard letter we can use to write to these companies explaining the obvious?

Porridgeoat · 05/12/2020 08:25

I need to copy and paste due to time

Daughterofmabel · 05/12/2020 09:10

Porridgeoat It often depends on what exactly their equality documents get wrong. However if you email address below we can send you some suggestions.
