Irish women will be heard (trending)

GrainneMhaol · 24/11/2020 19:12

Hi everyone. #WeWillBeHeard is trending on twitter in Ireland. It is in reponse to Amnesty International, the National Women's Council of Ireland and other major NGO's calling for people who "defend biology" or who are gender critical to be disenfranchised.

Their words: "..Let us say unequivocally that the statements of newly launched organisations that seek to defend biology or fight gender identity and expression do not represent the wider LGBTI+ community nor feminists in Ireland... We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs."

This is a thread with pictures and the hastag which is trending

A response letter from The Countess didn't fight for this thecountessdidntfightforthis.com/we-will-be-heard/

And an archived copy of the original ridiculous letter they are replying to (usual tropes about being far right etc) archive.is/glPXl#selection-1561.0-1561.202

Maybe it’s more about highlighting the glaring stupidness and dangers such as Limerick women’s prison having male sex offenders in.

Talk of single sex spaces and whether women are women doesn’t really engage the Irish public. I think most people would be horrified of actual examples of what this means.

However who to lead this? Not seen much from the Countess etc.

KittenKong · 20/10/2021 16:55

Crashing in here - anyone follow ‘femme loves’ on twitter?

She has been told to come into the Lurgan police station over some tweets. Word is that it’s a certain ribbon-clype who has raised a complaint.

1Week · 20/10/2021 17:43

What? Arrested over offensive tweets?
Lurgan is in NI, so UK law?

KittenKong · 20/10/2021 17:43

Yup. Looks like it. She is being advised to say nothing and get a cracking lawyer.

I think the bone headed stupidity of mixed sex toilets in secondary schools is one that will open a few eyes.

But will a few pissed off parents do anything against the juggernaut of Tge Greens minister for children determined to bring in self ID for 16 and 17 year olds. Doing the EU''s bidding like the bestest kid in the class.

Search up Debbie Haytons article in Unherd about the EU's plan for LGBT inclusion. Orban got his bottom smacked for going against it.

StealthPolarBear · 20/10/2021 17:48

Kitten Kong yes i do :(

It's nearly too much to believe
KittenKong · 20/10/2021 17:52

How can one man’s complaints be worth so much more than a woman’s?

usuallydormant · 20/10/2021 17:59

TCD Students Union is holding a referendum to boycott the Irish Times. It's transphobic apparently... It does seem a bit shortsighted for wannabe student journalists and authors to boycott a pretty well respected news outlet in a country where where are a limited number of media jobs and but I guess it shows they are committed.

bellinisurge · 20/10/2021 18:10

It's going to be even harder in Ireland to unpick the self-ID nonsense. Nolan Investigates from NI is getting noticed in Ireland and, please Goddess, the dreadful situation for Femme Loves might get coverage too.
Needs some TDs to get some courage

1Week · 20/10/2021 18:12

Is The Nolan thing getting coverage Bellinsurge ?
I haven't noticed tbh but I'm not so plugged in these days

3timeslucky · 21/10/2021 14:55

FF will be doubly conflicted because they got an amount of flak for being out of touch/dinosaurs during the Repeal campaign. I'm concerned about how they might position themselves on this issues in their enthusiasm to get some progressiveness points.

3timeslucky · 21/10/2021 17:31

There's a Times article by Sarah Ditum linked with a share token on page 27 of the Nolan Investigates thread raising issues about a lobby group influencing policy and legislation. It is worth a read and you can swop out Stonewall with T* and I think it reads just as credibly in relation to what happened here. I wonder would he like to do another podcast series about whateverthefuck it is that happened here.

1Week · 21/10/2021 17:37

I absolutely agree with that 3timeslucky
Have you heard of the Dentons document? A massive global law firm advising on tactics for trans organisations.
It cautions against being too open about their aims and specifically mentions Ireland as a success story as we got Self ID in without any public consultation, it was brought in quietly on the contrails of equal marriage which pretty much everyone supported.
The tactics seem pretty similar around the world but we were so thrilled to be riding the priests we immediately found another cause so be sanctimonious and forbidding about.

Great little country all the same

I'll see can I find a link

1Week · 21/10/2021 17:39

Fuck !Shock thrilled to be RID of the priests not riding them Shock

Inappropriate I'm sorry

NCBlossom · 21/10/2021 17:48

@1Week that mistake made me laugh all the same… I wondered if I’d read it correctly! Grin amongst all the worrying stories it has made me chuckle.

1Week · 21/10/2021 18:10
Blush
RocketPanda · 21/10/2021 18:20

Grin I was wondering what sort of Mass you were going to @1Week .
Ireland was so oppressed for so long, first under British rule and then under the Church its like we're just trying to rid ourselves of the stains of the past in the quickest way possible.

I agree, it's almost sinister how this was pushed through with no public consultation. That wasn't by accident, it was by design. They knew that the public would not get on board with this (for good reason), so sneaky tactics were used.

I would love to know what politicians were paid off... Yet again out lot have shown themselves to have no backbone, and no regard for the women of this country. I don't trust any of them!

It's interesting that you mention the church - many of the young people blindly pushing this ideology would be horrified at the idea of religious indoctrination, and yet they are pushing the same thing under a different name. Bizarre.

CreepingDeath · 22/10/2021 07:50

*our lot

3timeslucky · 22/10/2021 09:37

@1Week Don't feel bad. That made me laugh too.

To answer your question yes I saw the Denton doc (somewhere here I think). The callous calculation was/is shocking. Nothing good ever needs to be snuck in like this. The methodology speaks volumes about how likely they thought it would be that it would withstand robust debate and discussion.

Just heard the HSE ad on the radio urging people who are pregnant to get the vax.
Little things like that can easily be handwoven away on their own, but really it's just one pebble in an avalanche.
Using ideologically slanted language like that will hardly convince those who the think the whole Corona and vax situation has a strong social engineering dimension anyway.

The thing about saying people who are pregnant is that they could very easily say "if you are pregnant then please get the vaccination". But they are determined to push "pregnant people" as the way forward, despite it being so offensive to so many women. But the offence to women doesn't matter, the feelings of the tiny minority who don't identify as women are prioritised, despite pregnancy being a biological state, not an identity.

She's resisting as best she can with the assistance of a solicitor and good on her.

The ribbony-feart wee man is an acquaintance of a VIP, don't you know, a former Secretary of State for Defence, now a junior international trade minister. The one who TWAWed from the despatch box earlier in the year when she had no business to.

There's an awful pong about this business.

Stinks doesn't it.
It's all pull, as they say
