Stonewall funding -Amazon smile

I just found out that Stonewall, a once noble organisation with a massive budget are getting money through Amazon Smile. (They also recieve money from who the NHS, the department of education, the English, Welsh and Scottish Government and large pharma corporations like Arcus totalling millions) plus any profits they get from signing people up to their advocacy schemes for ideological brainwashing. I find it so unbelievable that only yesterday that hypocritical lawyer, Jolyon Maughan accused LGB alliance of being "a dark money funded astro-turfed hate group" . It takes no more than a cursory glance at the accounts filed to companies house to see which organisation is immorally funded, but to add insult to injury we are paying. I do not consent.

Clarification: Amazon Smile is a programme where individual customers choose a charity that will benefit from a donation (equivalent to 0.5% of the customer's purchase) from Amazon every time they make a purchase through Amazon.

If no customers selected Stonewall, then Stonewall wouldn't get anything.

PotholeParadies · 24/11/2020 12:50

So they're only getting money because some customers want them to.

If Amazon's Smile programme could only include charities that no-one disagreed with, I think the list of eligible charities might be very short.

Mermaids is also an option on Amazon Smile I think.

If it was mandatory and a donation was automatically deducted from your purchase then I'd be annoyed, as there are a load of charities and you can pick and choose, meh.

Centre for Women's Justice is also an option on Smile.

I give to my local domestic abuse through Amazon Smile.

It's up to the individual to choose their favourite charity.

I changed mine to dsd families last week. So far they've received 14p from me!

Someone posted previously about a small charity for women in Africa I think, as an alternative to Action Aid I think, I selected that one

Ah apologies, I just saw it randomly whilst doing some research. I thought amazon chose. Though if this wasn't so David and Goliath there would be women's advocacy charities and lobby groups to choose from.
