“I think you’ve missed the definition of what a man is”

I’m confused by this, so Daniel Radcliffe turns on JK when she defends the fact being a woman is more than just a feeling, or wearing “woman” stuff.

But when a right wing awful person goes after Harry Styles for wearing a dress, he says she doesn’t understand the definition of a man. Because a man in a dress, is still in fact, a man.

I’m totally lost at this point.

Not that I care Styles wore a dress, he’s a cheap knock off of Bowie and Cobain (I’m so old!), but still crack on lad.

His 'Watermelon Sugar' video was him very much a bloke cavorting with lots of beautiful women

Wearing lovely pink nail varnish while he tucked into his not at all suggestive lady shaped slice of watermelon. I think Harry is doing what is technically known as queering it up (don't @ me). In other words, exactly what half my pop idols were doing in the eighties without anywhere near as much fuss.

we had a spaniel who would catch sight of herself in the mirror- look intently at her reflection, as though trying to work it out, then with a little shake of her head, gambol off because it was just too complicated....

I absolutely know what she was experiencing when I try to unravel all this trans/gender identity stuff

PurpleHoodie · 17/11/2020 18:23

It got boring from the mid 90s onwards Scout.

Stricter 'gender lines' as the years have gone on.

More 'talent factory' output. Less style and hedonism.

NewlyGranny · 17/11/2020 18:40

I think the real risk is that any man who shows an inclination to wear clothing conventionally gendered as female will be gathered under the Stonewall wing and slapped with a sticky label whether he wants to be or not!

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/11/2020 18:45

Surely you understand that there is a raft of difference between a transgender person and someone who chooses to wear a dress either as a compulsion or simply a fashion statement

I don't actually @Nowayhozay but I'm so pleased someone who can explain what being trans means and am all ears

what does it mean to 'feel like a woman'? what are the defining characteristics of feeling like one?

DrizzleandDamp · 17/11/2020 18:53

Oh yeah it was Elijah sorry, that’ll be my old lady brain fog Blush

But have Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe ever been photographed together? Thats the big question Shock

I tend to avoid Candace Owens, is she always that irritating?

DrDavidBanner · 17/11/2020 19:09

And now I've just looked at the rest of that thread and its really depressing. No wonder men are so messed up these days

Scout2016 · 17/11/2020 19:26

Well now I've seen this. Quote is a bit dubious but he means well. Good old Iggy.

Scout2016 · 17/11/2020 19:27

Not being ageist there btw. Just a turn of phrase.

yeah some of the rest of the thread was pretty rank. reminded me why i don't go anywhere near twitter these days

Scout2016 · 17/11/2020 19:39

Fair enough Butterer, point taken.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 17/11/2020 19:54

I have no insights to add here but I'll be gutted, properly gutted, if elijah wood turns out to be a twat. I had the crush to end all crushes on him as frodo in LOTR as a teenager, and I will accept no judgement for that. Have you seen the American version of the show Wilfred? I thought he was great in that too. I'll be so sad if he turns out to be a gender twat.

MissMarplesGlove · 17/11/2020 19:58

Surely you understand that there is a raft of difference between a transgender person and someone who chooses to wear a dress either as a compulsion or simply a fashion statement

I think we all recognise that @Nowayhozay

But what is happening - a LOT - is that a lot of people reverse that, and pretend that because a man wants to wear a dress, then he must actually be a woman.

That's what is bonkers.

What's wrong with feminine men??? Nothing, as far as I'm concerned.

Duckwit · 17/11/2020 20:00

Not according to Stonewall who put 'cross dressing' under the 'transgender umbrella'.

PearPickingPorky · 17/11/2020 20:00

@Nowayhozay

I am not really sure what point the op is lost on.

Surely you understand that there is a raft of difference between a transgender person and someone who chooses to wear a dress either as a compulsion or simply a fashion statement.

What is the difference, please?

I think it would really help an awful lot of us to know this.

HumanFemale1 · 17/11/2020 20:13

There is no logic op, it's pretty much what Emma Watson said, "anyone is who they say they are"

But that's only if you're a man. If you are a woman and want to define your own reality and not have other people define it for you, you are a bigot and you are literally killing people

MujeresLibres · 17/11/2020 23:37

Grabthars, as far as I'm aware Elijah hasn't made any statements on the gender debate. But I don't follow him.
