Not sure if this has been shared before, but Amnesty are declaring their support to the Women's Strike by not mentioning the words woman or women.

Some good replies on there - especially some powerful words from Polish women.

Amnesty supporting people in Poland

This is an insult to the brave Polish women fighting this battle. It is their movement. Strajk Kobiet means Women's Strike. They're putting themselves on the line every day to oppose the biological oppression of women and Amnesty can't even do them the honour of calling them by their name. Not only that, but standing with 'people' is completely meaningless when it comes to the messaging here. If you didn't know about the abortion protests you wouldn't have the foggiest what they are talking about. Which people ? The people oppressing women? Or, you know, the women?

This is so inclusive that it literally includes everyone in Poland, including the people who are responsible for the things women are protesting against. Amnesty's gesture has been rendered absolutely meaningless to the women it is supposed to be supporting.

Oh just fuck off Amnesty, Polish women don't need your fucking empty bullshit right now.

Maduixa · 03/11/2020 12:49

I’ve said this before and (unfortunately) I’ll probably have reason to say it again but: lead, stand beside us, or follow - and if you can’t bring yourself to do any of these then get out of the way.

ChateauMargaux · 03/11/2020 18:55

Oh FFS.. it takes more effort to write posts about women without using that word than to actually say what you mean!

And what's with these faceless cartoons...

''Stand up or stand by'' is step 4 in the 5 steps to tyranny. Amnesty decided to stand by and watch while women fight for their lives.

''Tyrannies happen because ordinary people are surprisingly willing to do tyranny’s dirty work.''

The Guardian's done the same - no mention of the words women or woman in here: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/03/poland-stalls-abortion-ban-amid-nationwide-protests

How is this even possible. The Guardian knows who is being punished with this ban. Why can't they name women? It's so depressing.
