We've all been dumped/fired/harassed etc and we all manage not to expose ourselves to children.

I dont see how allowing him to shirk responsibility for his actions will do him any favours. Its basically just told him its ok

It doesn't state anywhere that the partner was a woman. It also sounds like he is blaming his mental health following the relationship rather than specifically the partner for the circumstances which led to him exposing himself. Not excusing the behaviour but there may be more information/ evidence around his mental health at the time that isn’t reported on which made the judge feel that it was better to focus on rehabilitation through the sex offenders programme over prison. It doesn’t sound like he’s gotten away with it as he has been found guilty and sentenced but the sentence wasn’t imprisonment.
