Astonished to hear a report today about the huge trafficking by men of thousands of Rumanian women for prostitution in Britain. a conference was mentioned and feminista . Unfortunately though the pimps were condemned, the users weren’t. But these days this shocking statistic to get a mention on mainstream media is to be welcomed. Is anyone here involved in this event and could tell us more?

I've been reading about this for a while now, the numbers are horrendous. It seems to be a career of choice for many men, enslaving women to generate an income.

It's awful and it's the reason I just can't agree that sex work is work. Sex work as shown in the Guardian and similar is the shiny acceptable sheen of the industry that enslaves women and children the world over. Sad

Just like people who take a line of coke at a party and don't think of the hundreds of thousands of people living in misery because of the drug trade.

I'm totally unsurprised by the story, and by the lack of coverage. After all, isn't unfettered immigration just brilliant? So the BBC and the Guardian will have us believe, anyway.

This makes me want to weep. The hypocrisy of the left shouting their heads off over historic atrocities and silent on this. How come I profit from the historical slave trade but the men using prostitutes today, here and now are cool?

I was interested that there is an actual parliamentary committee looking at this . Who is on it I wonder? But yes some people will use use it as an argument against immigration. It would be good to see an alternative response from the left. At the moment I have no faith that the men want to prevent this exploitation. In other countries such as Spain, the police are aware and we do see reports of raids and rescues. Can’t think of any in recent memory happening in Uk. It is men, not immigration that are fueling the trade.

I looked on the BBC website after hearing this story but couldn’t find any further information about it at all.

I was told years ago by a social worker that although she and her colleagues were well aware of local pimps prostituting underage girls and had passed on the information to relevant authorities nothing was done as too many men in the police, care, judicial system and local politics were enjoying the services provided by said pimps or otherwise profiting from it in some way. If that were true then, perhaps it is the same now with trafficked women?

Nordic model now! Gets my vote.
