I this this is really relevant to women's rights right now in all areas around the world. Over the last 6 years womens rights have been eroded by a recipe of secret meetings, dodgy research and a misinterpretation of womens sex based rights.
Women around the world are saying NO. (The video is delicious, if you haven't seen it.)
Two sides of this particular case on the 2019 trans sports guidelines: Claire Chandler against and Kate Jenkins for. Kate is from the Australian Human Rights Commission, which produced the guidelines for Sports Australia. It was based on the same awful flawed research that the IOC used for their trans guidelines.
Meetings were in held secret with trans groups only. (Like the IOC, prisons, GRA, schools etc etc around the world !).
Law was misinterpreted. Legal opinion on Claires side is that the 'human rights experts' delivered an inaccurate and misleading guide to anti-discrimination law. It misrepresents the federal Sex Discrimination Act, playing down exemptions allowing female sport to continue as single-sex, and giving sporting bodies the impression of a black and white choice between trans-inclusion or discrimination complaints.
Claire's questioning (which is brilliant) in that hearing is what politicians around the world should do.
Kate Jenkins “participation in sport is a human right” and the commission had heard stories from trans people excluded from the sports they loved because of their “gender identity”. “a person must also be able to bring their ‘whole self’ to any sport they participate in”.he was “really passionate” about equal access and opportunities for women’s sport, and the guideline was promoting trans inclusion, not taking away any female rights. the guideline was “just based on the laws as they currently exist”.
Claire Chandler “I think (the guidelines) have to be withdrawn as a matter of urgency and serious questions need to be asked about why Australia’s peak sporting body (Sport Australia and the commission have) been actively ignoring the risk of permanent injury or disability to female players,” The agencies have now conceded “that the guidelines have no scientific basis, no consideration of safety, no consideration of fairness in women's sport”.
