I just saw this in the Times and put it here for anybody interested:

Shirley Anne Sommerville (strong supporter of self ID) is facing a challenge to be reselected to stand in Dumbarton:

And yesterday's article about Caroline McAllister (convener of the Women's Pledge group) being barred from standing as an MSP, also in Dumbarton:

SNP lurching from bad to worse.

Igneococcus · 18/10/2020 11:18

Argyll&Bute will be interesing. According to the Times a French folk-singing transactivist is planning to stand (a transgender person according to The Press and Journal) and the Oban Times had an article a few weeks ago that Glasgow councillor Rhiannon Spear is planning to stand in A&B.

Mike Russell, the current incumbent, is a rubbish MSP. So hopefully there will be someone better to replace him. I don't know Sarah Fanet at all. Rhiannon Spear has been unbelievably rude and bigoted towards gc women. I wonder who else is standing ...

DidoLamenting · 18/10/2020 11:30

I will vote , as always, in the first choice for whichever candidate has the best chance of defeating the SNP candidate and Conservative in the second choice.

This has nothing to do with trans issues but the sheer idiocy of independence.

HubertHerbert · 18/10/2020 12:06

The SNP have wonderful women like Joan MacAlpine and Joanna Cherry

Please let Scotland make it to independence before the SNP fall apart

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/10/2020 12:14

According to twitter she is now going to stand for women's convener in the NEC Grin

Please let the SNP fall apart before they destroy Scotland.
DidoLamenting · 18/10/2020 12:20

Seriously how can anyone think independence is a good idea now? Scotland has a massive spending deficit. Furlough etc would be impossible without UK funds to support it.

HubertHerbert · 18/10/2020 12:35

It's now or never.

The bigger picture, rUK as we knew it is a sinking ship, we have no way of knowing what's going to happen, it might be better for Scotland to steer it's own course.

ArabellaScott · 18/10/2020 12:38

I was a 'yes' voter. Now more aware of how dishonest and manipulative the SNP are, very disinclined to support them on Indy or any other matter without considering the opposing side thoroughly.

nosswith · 18/10/2020 13:22

Please do not vote Conservative next year. Boris Johnson the misogynist will gain succour from it.

As for the SNP, I have long said they are the best argument against independence.

DidoLamenting · 18/10/2020 13:26

I will be voting Conservative. There is far more at stake here than Johnson. He's not going to be PM forever.

nosswith · 18/10/2020 15:01

Other unionist parties are available, and despite the full name of the Conservative Party, Mr Johnson sold the Ulster Unionist cause down the river with the deal to leave the political institutions of the EU.

DidoLamenting · 18/10/2020 15:23

Labour has no chance and until Starmer kicks out the Momentum Trots and Marxists I won't be voting Labour again.

I vote Lib Dems in Westminster elections as they beat the SNP in my seat. Trans issues don't remotely feature as a voting issue for me.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 18/10/2020 15:46

Sarah Fanet is apparently trans - and is standing on an all woman shortlist. As is this individual:

fatblackcatspaw · 18/10/2020 15:50

I cannot vote SNP and Labour are being major arses a the moment so even though I'm a labour member I'm reluctant to vote for them either

DidoLamenting · 18/10/2020 16:00

Fanet is a musician- sounds like a 4th rate Dougie Mclean (whose music I enjoy despite his dubious political views)

I don't agree with all women short lists so that aspect is neither here nor there.

fatblackcatspaw · 18/10/2020 16:11

I do agree with all women short lists but not with transgender women they are NOT the reason why they were set up.

fatblackcatspaw · 18/10/2020 16:15

Sarah Fanet is FRENCH- somewhat disceetly glided over in the about section

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 18/10/2020 16:16

Many disagree with AWS - not convinced myself.

However, if you allow some males to self-declare onto them, you are actually discriminating against other men as well as gaslighting women.

Legally they are allowed under the Equality Act on the specific basis of sex.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 18/10/2020 16:17

The Mridul story is the worst, however.

I know there have been threads before.

fatblackcatspaw · 18/10/2020 16:33

oh God Mirdil once we have the forwomen scotland judicial review in the bag lets crowdfund a rape crisis centre for central scotland

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 18/10/2020 17:01

That would be good!

I see that rape crisis scotland were quoted at length in the forensic medical bill stage one debate. They said that having a female doctor was the single most important factor for victims when evidence was collected. I don't understand how the cognitive dissonance doesn't make heads explode.

ArabellaScott · 18/10/2020 17:08

They are going for Mridul Wadhwa, over Joanna Cherry?

[blinks].

Okay then.

fatblackcatspaw · 18/10/2020 17:17

yes... and a French trans bloke... and Rhiannon Spear.... and and and
