Man making skirts non-gender

Sorry, stupid title.

But what do you think of this link? Man likes to wear skirts and heels to work, still definitely a man, not a transwoman, not a sexual fetish, he just thinks skirts should be non gender, likes the style etc.

I just find this really refreshing, how things should be really, Men should be able to chose more traditionally feminine clothes, whilst still being a men.

DS11 always comments that women’s fashions are so much brighter and more colourful than men’s. I’ve told him he can wear what he wants but he’s not confident enough to. Shame really - social convention is a hard master.

JaJaDingDong · 17/10/2020 08:28

I thought he looked bloody ridiculous.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 08:31

Theses a bloke near here who often wears a knee length leather skirt and dM-like boots. No rights and hairy legs.

It’s a look. I see him out with his wife. She doesn’t wear skirts.

testing987654321 · 17/10/2020 08:35

I go to ceilidhs and seeing blokes in a skirt at one is no big deal. I did see a young man at one before lockdown looking very stylish in a pale grey jacket and grey layered chiffon skirt.

When done like that it doesn't give off weird vibes. A couple of he photos of that bloke in the article look okay, but the very tight skirts/painful shoes isn't a look I like at all.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 08:36

A Kilt isn’t a skirt.

Caroncanta · 17/10/2020 08:41

They wear kilts at ceilidhs. That's not a skirt. I love men in kilts. Men in teeny tiny over sexualised short skirts and high heels though, nah, not today thanks. Bad enough on women. Fucking dreadful on men.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/10/2020 08:44

emphasising his female submissive side

Oh dear

  1. sexual submission is a fetish. if we agree that this man is wearing clothing to exaggerate submissiveness then yes, he's taking his fetish for a walk in public.

  2. his female submissive side. Are you really equating being female with being submissive? because if that's actually what you think rather than a slip of they keyboard, society has properly done a number on you.

This is exactly what we mean by abolishing gender
it really isn't. that man's clothes are highly gendered, both on the top and the bottom half. the juxtaposition evidently brings him satisfaction.

the gucci orange dress and the liberty 'long shirt' linked to above are more like non gendered or 'both gendered' clothing

when women wore trousers 100 years ago they were on occasion arrested. Of course to start with they were generally wearing trousers to make participating in physical activity easier rather than for the 'look'. (not everyone has Dido 's magic powers which make riding a pony in a skirt super easy and comfortable).

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 08:46

My sister wears pretty exclusively ‘men’s’ clothes. She always has.

So he’s in the paper breaking barriers?

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 17/10/2020 08:49

I have a male friend who has been wearing skirts for years. They are cut more like kilts and he calls them skilts and wears them with boots.
He's a blokey bloke who is a tradie, owns a motorbike etc.- I barely notice them anymore I've got so used to it.

testing987654321 · 17/10/2020 08:59

Sorry, j was talking English ceilidhs, you will see the occasional person in a kilt, but I meant skirt when I said skirt. Usually something long and hippyish but not necessarily. Obviously a tight skirt isn't suitable for dancing.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 08:59

I find skirts a bit draughty in winter and get sweaty thighs in the summer! Not comfortable at all!

CountFosco · 17/10/2020 09:06

I wonder if he bothers at home? I suspect an audience is required for this.

I think this pandemic has taught everyone that clothes are a performance. We have all become more casual when at home all the timebecàuse there's no audience.

I'm fairly 'meh' about him wearing skirts and heels. I'm glad he's not currently claiming he's somehow female because of it. However, the look is going to invite comment because that's what figure hugging clothes and high heels do, they are messaging sexuality. Kurt Cobain in a dress and cardigan or David Beckham in his sarong sent out different messages. And the men in kilts and DMs of my youth, sigh.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/10/2020 09:10

thinking some more about the difference between women normalising wearing trousers and men normalising wearing skirts.

men's sexuality is much more likely to include paraphilias / fetishes. That's part of the reason why many people are much more suspicious of the motives of men than of women. because experience tells us they're more likely to be doing it to get their jollies than a woman in a similar situation.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 09:13

No one wears shoes like that ‘at home’ surely?

testing987654321 · 17/10/2020 09:18

I find that a really interesting point of view. It's really opened my eyes to how much clothes are a performance for so many people.

I genuinely wear clothes which make me happy because they are comfortable and look nice (in my opinion).

I haven't changed what I wear at all.

Caroncanta · 17/10/2020 09:20

Is that country dancing? Never heard of an English ceildh.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/10/2020 09:23

yeah, I haven't changed what I wear since wfh (apart from no high heels, cos I wear slippers at home!).

if i were wearing track suit bottoms (tricky as I don't own any), or jeans or leggings day to day, I'd feel incredibly depressed! It turns out I dress the way I dress because it makes me happy

testing987654321 · 17/10/2020 09:47

Yeah, pretty much. They tend to be fairly simple dances and should be danced in quite a lively style. As opposed to the more Jane Austen style Playford dances which are more gentle.

Caroncanta · 17/10/2020 10:51

Ahh ok. It's kind of been rebranded then. Learn something new everyday.

littlbrowndog · 17/10/2020 11:01

Wee boys love wearing kilts. They love the swish you see them swooshing their kilts

I love men in kilts.they are sexy Nobody bats an eye

But the high heels. 🤦‍♀️

I haven't changed what I wear at all. The thought of slobbing out in tracksuit bottoms ( if I owned them) is not in the least bit appealing.

I do 3 days at home and 2 in the office. Yesterday was an office day. I wore a made to order silk dress from a designer in London, a tailored jacket, patent court shoes , a Hermes scarf and a tailored Max Mara coat. There were 3 other people in a vast open plan office. Other than switching a jacket for a cardigan on at home days I dress the same for home working as I would for an office day.

Completely agree. I don't see the slightest need to change how I dress just because of lockdown. I too dress the way I dress because it makes me happy.
littlbrowndog · 17/10/2020 11:15

Never out off my leggings at home . Love them

Skinnie jeans for going out

Makes me happy.

I have toddlers though

RosesandPumpkins · 17/10/2020 11:18

He wants to look masculine on top and non-gendered down below.

No I do not admire this man. He is making skirts non-gendered but firmly keeping shirts and ties for men 🙄 It’s a complete double standard.

CayrolBaaaskin · 17/10/2020 11:21

He wears them well.
