Just got the email and trying to decide which option to go for, anyone else?

Would love to be in a position to do the most expensive option but went for £45 subscription instead. Absolutely cannot wait to read it, love JCJ's writing and know the women supporting the endeavour will be equally interesting. Brilliant idea that feels very necessary for these times.... Roll on the Halloween postal delivery...

BlackWaveComing · 07/10/2020 22:53

I can't afford it.
Hope many others can.

Smellbellina · 07/10/2020 22:55

Ach I can’t wait either, I just need to choose an option!

Smellbellina · 07/10/2020 23:01

So do I @BlackWaveComing
I would like to contribute and share as much as I can

I’m going to subscribe, I read JCJ everyday on twitter even though I haven’t an account there. Perhaps we could do a ‘pay it forward’ for FWRers?!

itchyfingers · 07/10/2020 23:57

Just bought my 'Rest of the World' annual subscription. Says the shipping costs will go down as more people subscribe, so will watch that as an indicator of numbers outside the UK/Europe.

NonnyMouse1337 · 08/10/2020 04:25

I had kind of hoped the magazine would be open to women and feminists of all persuasions, but it seems it's only for those on the left, which is a bit disappointing as for me women's rights don't belong to a specific political side. We've gotten this far because women from all backgrounds have taken a stand. The reason I love the FWR board compared to other online feminist spaces is because of the variety of opinion and political viewpoints, including women willing to challenge some of the ideas in feminism. I'd love to read a print version of the thoughts and perspectives of all sorts of women.

Anyway they are entitled to focus their publishing efforts how they like. I went for the £45 subscription as a gesture of goodwill. I hope it does well.

ilovegreen · 08/10/2020 06:09

I have subscribed. I went for ‘founding supporter’. I’m new to feminism but it is becoming very important to me. I’m looking forward to the first copy.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 08/10/2020 06:26

I’ve subscribed and opted for the 45 quid option. I hope this does well. I think JCJ is a marvel and is deserving of our support

NecessaryScene1 · 08/10/2020 07:03

Absolutely in. Already subscribed to lots more mainstream publications who've been doing a good job, but this is a chance to reward someone who's been an absolute rock in the middle of this.

Plus, anything we can do to give her more media cred. Hopefully she'll get more presence in mainstream publications or on the telly if she's "Jane Clare Jones, editor of Radical Notion" rather than "off Twitter".

(Meghan Murphy manages to do that somewhat, as "editor of Feminist Current". An actual print magazine, and in the UK, would work even better).

NecessaryScene1 · 08/10/2020 07:07

Sorry - "The Radical Notion". Let's not start screwing up their branding before it's even started... This is the early point where errors can stick :)

For those unaware, it comes from "Feminism is the radical notion that women are people."

JCJ used it as the title to a blog post last year: janeclarejones.com/2019/09/01/the-radical-notion-that-women-are-people/

Google searches attribute that to Marie Shear in 1986, but I haven't found a proper reference and I don't know who Marie Shear is. Blush

Cwenthryth · 08/10/2020 08:57

Have just signed up for a standard subscription, just to say to others to not feel we have to go for the £45 option the standard subscription is £34 for the year or you can just order one issue for £10.

I previously took out a - much more expensive - subscription for one year of an academic “feminist” philosophy journal called Hypatia. Out of the three issues in that year, one was almost entirely dedicated to examining trans issues from an unchallenged TWAW viewpoint. It was massively disappointing but at least gave me an insight into how far down the rabbit hole academia is. Did not renew that subscription!

movingmuddle · 08/10/2020 10:33

I love the artwork, it makes me feel this is going to be something really special!

What's going to be in it, does anyone know? I mean, obviously Jane's writing but what else?

WhereAreWeNow · 08/10/2020 10:44

I'm in. I would have just gone for the £10/single issue option [cheapskate] but the beautiful artwork has swung it for me. I'm going for the £45 option.

Manderleyagain · 08/10/2020 10:47

Yes I'm going to subscribe. I really can't wait. I'm sure it will be fab. It's such a positive development.

Beamur · 08/10/2020 11:10

I've subscribed too. Looking forward to reading.

TheRadicalNotion · 08/10/2020 11:51

Hello! This thread has inspired us to open up our own Mumsnet Account. Hopefully I will remember to check for messages quite regularly. Our contact email is on our the website.

Thank you so much for your support Smile

HuckfromScandal · 08/10/2020 12:16

I am just working out finances,
If I can afford it - I am going for the £100 option.

Scout2016 · 08/10/2020 13:34

Just the big standard £34 subscription here. Will replace the Saturday guardian I don't buy any more.

FlippinFumin · 08/10/2020 14:25

Standard for me too as still reduced hours at work. But we will see how things go for renewing next year. Really looking forward to Halloween.

chilling19 · 08/10/2020 15:36

Signed up to £45 option. Can't wait!

Igmum · 08/10/2020 15:46

Thanks Mumsnetters, I'd not heard of this but have signed up and handed over my £45. Very excited to see women prioritised. It's like being there at the start of the Virago press!

dolorsit · 08/10/2020 15:57

@TheRadicalNotion have you thought of producing postcards of the artwork?

I don't have room for posters but I am very fond of sending a postcard to make a point.

Catmaiden · 08/10/2020 17:49

Signed up, really excited about it
