Looks like something is about to drop.

From that link:

-----

The reality in the UK is as follows:

NICE Guidelines – non existent
Nationwide Medical School Curriculum – non existent
Undergraduate training programme – non existent
Postgraduate clinical specialty – non existent
UK published guidelines – non existent
Mandatory training – non existent
Inclusion in the Royal College Postgraduate Curricula – non existent
Country-wide Clinical Commissioning Group Guidelines – non existent
Local GP practice adopted guidance – non existent

But being trans isn't a medical condition, so why do they need specialist healthcare?

Melroses · 05/10/2020 20:51

They are probably making enquiries around the case that is coming up in court this week.

What you would expect journalists to do really - their job - hardly some conspiracy against trans people Confused

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2020 20:56

I thought the individuals could not practice in the UK?
I'm pretty sure it still counts if you have your website hosted from outside the UK.

notyourhandmaid · 05/10/2020 20:59

The paranoia!

Helen webberley is suspended by the GMC. They moved the clinic to Spain so they could continue.

The service is an online service, presumably no face to face consultation and according to this, much of the process including counselling is optional. www.gendergp.com/help-centre/how-much/

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2020 21:14

But even if they are located outside of the UK, they can't legally practice in the UK. They can't make a diagnosis or issue prescriptions. I'm not sure they can even refer you elsewhere.

Thingybob · 05/10/2020 21:17

Good, the public should be made aware of the goings on at GenderGP. They openly admit to supplying cross sex hormones for children as young as 13 and at least two teenager patients have had tragic outcomes whilst under their care.

RozWatching · 05/10/2020 21:19

And isn't their business now registered in Belize or somewhere like that to get around the GMC ban?
I'm surprised it's taken this long but better late than never.

The paranoia!
Or guilt?
PronounssheRa · 05/10/2020 21:24

I assume that whilst the Wobberleys can't practice that they can employ doctors who can to do their work

That is my assumption. Interesting that the website has names of the therapy team, but I can't seem to find names of the doctors working for gender gp.

Their website says Hong Kong

Is this the doctor who openly admits to prescribing puberty blockers to 12 years olds?

According to this piece, yes.

Yup, from the BBC interview:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/10/2020 21:44

And here it is on the website:

persistentwoman · 05/10/2020 21:50

Thank you. Another one of those 'this never happens' facts. Hmm

OldCrone · 05/10/2020 21:52

@persistentwoman

She prescribed testosterone to a 12 year old girl.
rogdmum · 05/10/2020 21:53

With GenderGP it’s not so much the age that puberty blockers are given that are a problem, it’s the lack of proper assessment/counselling and also the age where they have OK’d cross sex hormones - I.e. below the lower age limit of 16 on the NHS.

rogdmum · 05/10/2020 21:55

I wish we could get stats from GenderGP on numbers of children/adolescents and puberty blockers/cross sex hormones plus ages. I suspect rather a lot go through them rather than waiting the 3+ (or whatever it is now) waiting list on the NHS.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 05/10/2020 22:09

I don't know what the legal limits if their practice currently are, but last time I checked reddit there were plenty of people (current patients) saying they were still being treated by them despite the move. That was right around the time of the suspension though, I haven't checked recently. Can't wait to see what shows up in the Times. Didn't they also prescribe hormones and blockers to patients they'd never even met after a single phone consultation, or over email, or something else insane? They're completely nuts. Posie has a great video of "Dr Wobberly" somewhere on her channel.

OneEpisode · 05/10/2020 22:21

It sounds like the Mirror found evidence of the business model, but GenderGP are treating the expose as an advert, and the Mirror decided not to go to press. GenderGP have no shame.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/10/2020 23:02

The GMC needs to take stronger action against these people.

Gender GP were supposed to be setting up a clinic in Glasgow, but, that has not yet materialised.

Good.

Suffrajester · 05/10/2020 23:32

Their YouTube channel is still up last I checked, both Webberleys feature and make some very wild claims indeed. Saying that hormones are in our bodies in small amounts naturally, so taking extra can't be that bad for you; dismissing the idea of psychiatric assessment before getting these hormones; saying you're likely more than a bit trans if you like wearing clothes or doing activities stereotypically associated with the opposite sex; the whole thing feels like even they themselves don't realise how grossly unethical and cavalier it all sounds. I would've thought they'd take it down after the GMC suspension but they really don't seem to think they've done anything wrong or realise how dangerous this misinformation is.
