Depends also, of course, on how much you want to spend and what the child already has.

Back again - she likes ballet and cycling. Her parents are not happy for pink sparkly unicorn mermaid stuff that you see a lot these days!

Cycling - does she have good gloves/ hi vis jacket etc?
Good t-shirt - my DD had an evolution of windsurfing sweatshirt from Cafe Press - they're quite good for finding Ts, sweatshirts, mugs or whatever with just about any design you can think of on them.

Yes we have already got her microscope, telescope, glove, scooter, science kit, a million scary American girl dolls... a magazine sub might be good too.

It’s tricky when it’s someone else’s children isn’t it? The parents always say ‘oh don’t bother, she has everything...’ (so I threaten to send a drum kit or a puppy - only joking!)

Probably because I need one it’s on my mind.

Obviously pannier bag requires they have a pannier rack already. They can be tricky to get on smaller bikes, or to fit on women's bikes with the saddle set low. So that's probably not something to get on spec.
