Latest 'why equality matters' statement from the LP. No mention of sex as a protected category.
Is this ignorance? Seems unlikely since it's Marsha de Cordova. So it must be gaslighting. I'm beyond angry.

They also emphasise gender reassignment, knowing that many people wrongly believe that includes self-ID.

It does include self ID: you can't treat anyone who identifies as the opposite sex without a GRC any differently from other people the same sex as them. So you can't treat a self ID'd transwomen without a GRC any differently from other men. You can't for example ban them from men's changing room as that would be discrimination on the basis of gender reassignment. Nor can they use a women's changing room as they are men. That is the actual legal position as opposed to stonewall law.

If they have a GRC then you should treat them as the sex on that unless they are inheriting a peerage, for sport, or if necessary to protect the safety, privacy and dignity of people of the opposite sex.

for the men, not for you

Brilliant! Grin

I don't think it's a reverse ferret.

Labour are in a complete mess on this, and change position almost daily i said on another thread i don't trust them at all and I don't think they have the ability to think critically.

Until they have a clear unambiguous statement on sex based rights (and I mean sex based) i can't vote for them. They are duplicitous.

iguanadonna · 02/10/2020 20:40

I left the Labour Party over this and I have not looked back. It's not for c-word women.

Aesopfable · 02/10/2020 21:05

It's not for c-word women

Clever, compassionate, capable, Cornish, competent, caring, considerate, concerned, canny, consummate, campaigning, controversial, contentious, Cumbrian, competitive, civil engineer, chemist, corporate, clinical, civilian, capital, Catholic, Calvinist, coastal, centenarian...

They know - oh they know

LumpySpacedPrincess · 02/10/2020 21:13

They back self id so their version of single sex space involves men in women's space. They think they are being super clever though and way more clever than us ordinary folk as they make the odd nod to upholding single sex spaces.

Wankers.

Antibles · 02/10/2020 21:17

Unforgivable for sex to be omitted and by the Shadow Women and Equalities Minister to boot.

How hard could it be to cut and paste the ACTUAL nine characteristics??

MerchedCymru · 02/10/2020 22:11

It feels particularly galling that a woman forgot to include the category that specifically protects her.I agree Anibles, it's unforgivable.

stella47 · 02/10/2020 22:35

Labour Peer Lord Philip Hunt has tweeted in support of making sure sex is included, and has since replied to tweets on the subject, saying that he is talking to colleagues about it.

Labour don't think sex is a protected characteristic in the EA.

Given his CV Starmer really should know his way round the EA. Allowing his party to misrepresent the law makes him personally look like a fool. He really needs to pull his finger out.

highame · 03/10/2020 09:23

and still nothing from him. The Fence Sitter In Chief is doing a fantastic job

Yep. That became very clear during the Labour manifesto debacle. They are just spinning words. The Cons tried the same tack to silence women - of course you can keep single-sex provision (but people can choose their sex). We would have been completely screwed if Liz Truss hadn't taken over from Penny Mordaunt. It's infuriating.
