I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible…
I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can face anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman
I am woman

Sad news. She was a great singer. I loved her “No way to treat a lady” as well.

sawdustformypony · 30/09/2020 11:26

Angie Baby was always one of my favourites.

Sad

Sad news...one of the first songs I really remember from my childhood

Babdoc · 30/09/2020 12:22

You are definitely younger than me, MadamBatty - I remember laughing as a trainee anaesthetist in the gynae operating theatre as “That’s no way to treat a lady” warbled out of the radio during a hysterectomy!

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/09/2020 12:29

I'm sad to hear this. I loved that song as a child - I can remember singing along to it not really understanding many of the words but liking the idea that I'd grow up into someone who would roar.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 30/09/2020 12:58

What a shame, such a big part of the soundtrack to my childhood Sad

I do think there's her biopic coming out soon that looked really worth watching. Now with added poignancy.

RIP Helen. Flowers

We sang this at my friend's funeral it was beautiful.

All female pall bearing squad.

Women only in the crem.

Very powerful.

jessstan2 · 30/09/2020 13:25

Oh I am sorry, really liked her. She would have been 79 next month. Poor soul had dementia, bless her. She is at peace now.

What an icon!

nonsenceagain · 30/09/2020 14:17

I hope she knew how much that song meant to so many women. One of my favourites.

MountainWitch · 30/09/2020 14:18

Wow moofolk Sad
Great lyrics, great song

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/09/2020 14:24

Great, powerful lyrics sung in such a pure, sweet voice... not a trill or booty shake in sound or sight!

Mollscroll · 30/09/2020 14:27

This takes me back. Going to download some Helen Reddy tonight in tribute. Her voice was unmistakable.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/09/2020 14:32

I've let Youtube run... about to get her "jamming with the Bee Gees"!!!

OMG!

Horizons83 · 30/09/2020 17:53

@ChaosTrulyReigns I think the biopic has already been released, hoping it makes it on to a platform soon.

So very sad to wake up to this news, I am much younger than the usual demographic for her music, but discovered it a few years ago and absolutely love her. I Am Woman is such a powerful song.

RCBadger · 30/09/2020 21:08

I remember when she won her Grammy (best pop vocal performance female) for "I Am Woman." In her acceptance speech, she thanked God because "She makes all things possible."
