I haven't posted on MN for a while and had forgotten my password, but have reset it so I can say.... SIGNED.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing this to my attention. The letter and article in the Times absolutely made my day yesterday, I was positively beaming.
Such a hugely important issue.

@JamieLeeCurtains

Flowers *@zaramysaviour*.

I've lost a few 'Twitter friends' and I only use my account professionally, so they've obviously spotted that I've very occasionally liked something heinous such as a scientific reference to biology.

An old university friend of my did her dissertation on sexual dimorphism and is woke as fuck now. I reckon I'll just have to wait a few years for her to loop back round again when the Salem madness has died down.

I just wrote my dissertation on celebrity transwomen and the perpetuation of gender stereotypes. It was enlightening stuff. And over and over again, the overwhelming reasons anecdotally, behind MTF transitioning was because 'I always felt drawn to girly things/feminine things/ pink/dolls etc'

It was fascinating to research and write about.

I'm curious... what does the percentage on the petition actually mean?

Almost there! Add your voice!
95%

It's 95% of 5,700 ?

But where does the number come from and what does it mean?

Thank you for the opportunity to show support. Signed, proudly.

Flowers to Zara and any others who have lost friends, work, family or sleep over this.

I just don't have the energy to pretend anymore, tbh. I'd rather it was all clear and out there. Good friends ought to know that I'm not bigoted or hateful for wanting to support women.

Yeah I don't think the percentage thingy is to be trusted - it was on 95% last night when I signed, and it was 2k signatures then. I think it's probably to make people more inclined to sign to help a petition over the finishing line.

Watching the raw numbers climb up and up, and reading the comments, is heartwarming.

Yes agree about not trusting the percentage thing. A nudge to get people to act but distracging.

Some insightful words in the comments - it is heartwarming.

Signed. I work for a woke tech company and I had a moment’s pause about writing my full name, and then thought - for God’s sake, this is where we are - am I actually thinking twice about putting my name to a letter like this, the content of which should be utterly uncontroversial? So put my full name down and will happily have the argument with anyone who wants to call me out on it.

Same, standup. This petition makes no mention of anything other than JKRs right to not receive abuse and threats. It's very illuminating that people are afraid to even say 'this woman shouldn't get death threats' . And depressing how many people are saying 'she shouldn't get death threats BUT'

Signed with full name. How depressing that that should even be something to declare.

Thanks Glinner, so wonderful to see so much support for JKR. ❤️

awesome @StandUpStraight - if you or anyone does get 'called out' for signing, it would be good to hear about it.
