Hopefully we will finally be rid if this regressive nonsense

Mermaids told The Mail on Sunday that while the charity offers training for teachers, it does not offer classroom talks and lesson materials for pupils in England and Wales, and so would be unaffected by the rule changes that were announced last week.

I’ve noticed Mermaids’ frantic wheeling-skidding reverse since the government’s new school guidance told lobbyists to tone down the propaganda.

But aren’t Mermaids still trying to claim teachers shouldn’t tell children they are defined by their bodies, or some similar wording? I read it the other day, a Mermaids tweet I think, but can’t find it again now.

KaptainKaveman · 27/09/2020 12:08

Who'd be a teacher these days ? Poor, beleaguered and exploited.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 27/09/2020 12:10

Sarah Vine also in the Mail:

"Forget J. K. Rowling. The real feminist hero is Liz Truss who, by pushing back on calls to amend the Gender Recognition Act, has made clear, once and for all, that you can’t have individuals with penises intruding on women-only spaces, no matter how insistent the chorus from the wokerati.
The irony is that in a Parliament dominated by men, she’s the only one with a real set of cojones."

Good news. The guidance from the government is very sensible and clear. It also seems to have implications for some of the sex education we've been seeing like the 'dice game' where it talks about age appropriate etc

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 27/09/2020 12:15

put simply, adults should never tell a child they have the ‘wrong’ body OR use physical characteristics to tell a child what their gender is.
mermaidsuk.org.uk/news/understanding-school-guidance/

This contradictory statement looks to me as if Mermaids are still pushing the ‘assigned at birth’ myth, and keeping ‘gender’ muddled up with sex. Physical characteristics do define your sex.

Kit19 · 27/09/2020 12:15

If mermaids are unaffected by the changes announced why are the reverse ferreting at the speed of light??

Their arrogance knows no bounds - they genuinely think they can just say “we never said born in the wrong body” and despite all the receipts produced, and they’ll be ok

persistentwoman · 27/09/2020 12:23

Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence and Stonewall are desperate to stay on that lucrative gravy train. Education is a massive money spinner for them and as presumably the DfE coffers won't opening up to them in the future they want to cling on to all their interventions in schools.

yourhairiswinterfire · 27/09/2020 12:26

Hmmm, Mermaids tweeted about this DM article yesterday with a content warning 🙄. It looks like it's been deleted and replaced with a similar thread (just this minute) with the content warning removed.

I thought Mermaids were in agreement? What were they taking offence at then, the controversial charity part?

Teachers told to stop pushing stereotypes onto children, telling them they are trans
tadpole39 · 27/09/2020 12:27

Sadly, that seems to be the message in politics today, deny deny deny. Countless protestations about never having met someone despite there being numerous pictures of them with their arms slung around each other’s shoulders....... And no one seems to be challenging it! Moonshot anyone???

Mermaids not happy...

They really need to make up their minds. They don't dx on stereotypes so they never suggested a tomboy wouldn't have been told they were transed so they have nothing to defend ajd get upset about do they. I mean their stance is so clear no one would make the connection so no need to worry?!

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/09/2020 12:36

And the All sorts guidence cam lose the part about providing access to clothes too?

Win win

Tanith · 27/09/2020 12:36

It's about time Liz Truss got something right, but she isn't a feminist hero in the way that Sarah Vine claims, and no-one will forget JK Rowling's massive contribution.

Until recently, the Conservative party was meekly trotting behind the TRA bandwagon.

I am becoming suspicious that they intend to make a political Left vs Right narrative, conveniently forgetting about the left wing women who first stood up to the bullies.

There are TRAs and GC in all the parties, even Green and LibDem.

NiceGerbil · 27/09/2020 12:42

Sarah vine is a bit of a dick isn't she?

Why bring jk into it and say yeah she's a bit shit.

She's done loads to raise awareness at massive personal cost (having thousands of rape and death threats can't be much fun).

growinggreyer · 27/09/2020 12:46

I agree, @Tanith. JKR's intervention has been absolutely a game-changer and should go down in history. I remember someone on this board a few years ago wishing for someone, anyone powerful to step up and lo and behold, the best person possible educated herself and did so in a very measured and powerful way.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/09/2020 13:00

I cannot get over the audacity of saying no one is willing to have a reasoned conversation ..

From someone so trigger happy with the block button....

rogdmum · 27/09/2020 13:02

Well that was a rant and a half by Mermaids.

Wonder if they still endorse schools formally transitioning pupils behind their parents’ backs.

Datun · 27/09/2020 13:11

I'd still like to know on what they are basing the definition of gender identity, in that case. How do I know what my gender identity is? And how or why would it differ from my sex?

What has it got to do with my sex?

Kettlingur · 27/09/2020 13:17

I cannot get over the audacity of saying no one is willing to have a reasoned conversation ..

I know, right? This coming from the #nodebate crew.

Nomnomarrgh · 27/09/2020 13:18

Are schools going to have to do a reverse ferret with all the pupils they pushed onto the trans train?

northstars · 27/09/2020 13:22

Mermaids gaslighting is off the scale Shock

Siameasy · 27/09/2020 13:24

If there’s no born in the wrong body and there’s no playing with the wrong toys, liking them wrong things etc then what are the indicators a child is trans? I read their response to the Clothes and Toys question and it was waffle. There’s no definition. Mermaids need not exist any more.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/09/2020 13:26

Are schools going to have to do a reverse ferret with all the pupils they pushed onto the trans train?

Well given half the parents don't even know its gonna be easy to do.

But I asked a question a whike back, and that is what will happen to all these kids just "dropped" by everyone . I mean having built up the reliance on external validation and been alienated from their parents and no record of any thing even happening these kids are in serious trouble.

Surely this will either tip them over the edge and parents have been kept on the dark and will not know to look for signs of mental distress or it will push them deeper onto these unregulated websites/sub forums...

This is why you should never start something you can't finish. Long after stonewall certificates are forgotten about and covid regulations mean no visitors to the school theres still a child in the middle of it all at school with no one in ther corner

NiceGerbil · 27/09/2020 13:26

Mermaids were the gi Joe to Barbie scale weren't they?
