"But for all that the Scottish government is relaxed about drawing distinctions between Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom it wishes to be no part of, is it really prepared to insist that “woman” has one meaning in Carlisle but quite another in Dumfries?"

Good question, Alex.

Well, at the risk of being blunt, just as wearing a kilt does not make you a Scot even if you think it does, so a man in a dress is not transformed into a woman simply by his choice of clothing.

"It's about time that the umbrella under which cross dressers expect to be called women, was publicised. It rarely, if ever, gets mentioned."

Anyone heard from Philip Bunce recently?

a shout out to Jo Marsh in the comments in the Times who is doing sterling work! All the comments seem extraordianrily sensible... do TRA's sleep in on a sunday?

It is war in snp at moment. It is needed.

Wonder why first minister started it. Was her tweets about spear that seemed to start it off.

Her defence of spear

Nicola Sturgeon has clearly picked her side in the trans debate. Rhiannon Spears is dogmatic in her TWAW mantra and 'sex work' is the same as having a job at Asda bollocks.

Also worth pointing out that Rhiannon Spear is the WOMEN'S Convenor. Yes, at least she is a woman in that role but she speaks out about the interests of men not women

Sturgeon said nothing when two SNP MPs and the most prominent Scottish author in the world were getting rape and death threats.

nauticant · 27/09/2020 15:29

I'm rather irritated at The Sunday Times. Someone had commented about trans activists having influence and I replied simply linking to the Dentons report* and quoting one part of the document. Nothing more. My reply was deleted.

HirplesWithHaggis · 27/09/2020 15:40

I will be very surprised if Ms Spear is selected, but then I'm quite surprised she passed vetting. Pressure from on high? But her lies are what has set this alight, not Ms Sturgeon's defence. That just added fuel.

BlackForestCake · 27/09/2020 21:49

Vetting isn't really an issue if you're one of the leadership's golden boys or girls. This is true of all parties.
