You’d have thought this was good news - a bit of women’s rights stuff but this write up - just wow.

Hmmm - a "trainee reporter" in need of a lot more training in writing objective reports and not letting their personal bias show. Hmm

Funny I just came to post this as a thread because what I immediately thought was:

How much does anyone want to bet that she will be "unselected" by the end of next week? Angry

(For anyone who hasn't listened to her speech at WPUK meeting on the growth of queet politics which gave rise to trans activism and the attempt to derail women's rights here is a link to the video or download to read womansplaceuk.org/2019/05/21/feminism-postmodernism-and-womens-oppression/ )

Sorry forgot to add that she was after all forced out of a Women's Liberation celebration conference in Oxford! morningstaronline.co.uk/article/b/row-erupts-at-women-liberation-conference-50th-anniversary

So all the Oxford Mail can find to say about a very well known academic and feminist being chosen to head a new research programme is that the trans lobby doesn't like her.

Maybe not surprising, given its coverage of the crimewave inflicted on Oxford last year by someone posting "offensive" stickers saying (cover your eyes now if you have a weak disposition) Woman = adult human female.
www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/17960516.sticker-fight-transphobic-messages/

This is rather sad because the Oxford Mail used to be a well known and reputable local newspaper. Now it publishes stuff that an editor really should go through with the writer (a trainee journalist) ---explaining the difference between a news story and an opinion piece, the importance of balance and the need to check 'facts' given by lobby groups about their opponents.

This article came up on my Google feed. I was gobsmacked at how biased it is.

Shockingly poor journalism.

nepeta · 27/09/2020 21:10

She needed bodyguards earlier this year because of the harassment she received for her opinions about the clash between women's rights and trans demands. Her research in her field is directly relevant for heading an equality programme.

Those would be a few bits of information which they have left out.

SunsetBeetch · 27/09/2020 21:34

"It is unclear how the new Women's Equality and Inequality, which is part of the Oxford Martin Programme, will improve the rights of all women, including trans women, as both Prof Todd and Oxford University did not provide a comment when contacted by the Oxford Mail."

Probably because they know what an awful rag you've become? Hmm

TweeBree · 27/09/2020 21:50

From the trainee reporter's Linkedin:

A London based multimedia journalist who has just completed an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism at Press Association. I am interested in politics, women's rights and activism, as well as current affairs.

Not interested in women's rights enough to write about it without inserting her own personal politics. Hmm

What a shitty article.

WeeBisom · 28/09/2020 17:31

I feel so bad for Selina- trans students at Oxford were complaining about 'triggering and transphobic 'essay questions set in the history exam earlier in the year, and were blaming her for setting them! Imagine being that upset by a frigging exam question.

sorry, that was me, I should have checked! Blush

What on earth happened to the subs at the Oxford Mail? That is defamatory.
