Comment Removed from Janice Turner Hate Crime Article in The Times

I've name changed for this as it's obviously outing (or at least linking across platforms).

I'm just here for a gripe, really. I commented on this article this morning and it's just been unceremoniously deleted.

It said (almost word for word) that while I didn't think that 'hate crime' as a concept is helpful, if we're going to have it, it's outrageous not to include sex (as a protected characteristic) and that not including it precisely because it's too prevalent is outrageously craven.

Not that this should matter but it was the most recommended comment on that article and I found that quite heartening.

I honestly can't fathom what could possibly have got it deleted and am disproportionately annoyed by it.

If anyone would like to pat me on the head / share their own tales of unjust deletion woe (on platforms other than Mumsnet, perhaps - I'm not looking to start a civil war!) please join me in my aggrieved muttering!

AnnoyedofTunbridge I also took out a subscription to The Times for the sole purpose of countering the nonsense and lies posted in comments by the likes of “Disgusted of Manchester”.

(I have a different User Name, to avoid the cross-platform stalkers and witch-doxers!)

I don’t know if she is on here but, if she is, a big shout out to the excellent Jo March, whose comments are sometimes even better than the original article!

If they get all pissy PC and delete perfectly decent comments just because they are Gender Critical then I’ll be complaining too - and cancelling my subscription if they don’t change their ways.

If they want to alienate subscribers with a sharp kick in the teeth then they are going the right way about it.

It will be very interesting to see if the potential loss of subscription means you get some traction with your complaint. I do hope so.

Just an update (of sorts) for anyone still interested - they told me they would get back to me within 28 days, hopefully sooner.

They haven't. I've just prompted them.

Whether I've just slipped through the cracks, or they hoped I'd forget about it and go away, or they have absolutely no idea what to say for themselves, I couldn't say.

But I've made it politely clear that I still want to know whether stand by the deletion and, if so, why.

I've been a big admirer of The Times for letting their journalists tackle this subject, respectfully, but head-on and in the spirit of democratic debate. Let's hope they don't start undermining that position via their moderators.

Good for you! Keep going. This silencing of women needs to be challenged more.

Good for you, OP, and thanks for updating this thread. Missed it the first time and just saw it via Active.

@AnnoyedOfTunbridge, have you tried sending a direct message on Twitter to Janice Turner to ask for her support? I would hope she could put a rocket under their moderators in a case like this. Good luck.

Every morning I open my phone and note my bannings and deletions. I never say anything hateful or mean. I say the unfiltered truth and the world hates it. Someday people like us are going to be so unique that we might become worth something again.
