"I don't believe that post-modernist academia should have any influence over safeguarding frameworks that are grounded in material reality"

So a friend(ish) not close. Wishing to educate me (their words) on the trans debate sent me the Judith Butler article to persuade me of their point of view.

I responded with the above and I've heard nothing since.

I work in a professional role with children. Any chance this could get me burned at the stake or have we moved on from that now?

I don't know the answer to your question but I like your quote.

HumphreyCobblers · 26/09/2020 14:55

That is superb response. You are entirely correct.

GrossePois · 26/09/2020 15:23

I think I might be using that! Fantastic response.

moofolk · 26/09/2020 16:04

Excellent response.

That interview was complete nonsense.

Have you seen that lovely Phoebe's response video to it? She's so young yet so aware it gives me so much hope.

I agree with your response, but people who base their careers on post modernism probably view it as more offensive than anything anyone says about trans.

DialSquare · 26/09/2020 16:18

I'm not surprised you haven't had a response! There's not much they can say to that as it's pretty perfect.

Kantastic · 26/09/2020 16:39

I clicked on this thread to find out where the quote was from! That's a great response OP, it encapsulates the whole issue very neatly.

And FWIW I can't see how the meaning of that quote can be distorted out of context so I don't see how you could get in trouble for it. Though if they're particularly malicious/indoctrinated I suppose they could just invent something you said and attribute that to you, like TRAs have done with Maya Forstater and JK Rowling.

Grin

I've a degree in Sociology and an MSc in a related discipline so at least my friend(ish) won't be able to accuse me of not being able to understand post modernist academia.

Still tumbleweed from her

That is an armour piercing statement if ever I saw one! Respect OP!

ChattyLion · 28/09/2020 10:06

That’s a beautifully succinct and complete reply you've made there.

Gncq · 28/09/2020 10:08

I can't believe anyone would actually send a link to a Judith Butler article to prove anything

PurpleHoodie · 28/09/2020 10:09

Wonderful quote.

If you have to send it again, highlight your word SAFEGUARDING in bold.
